Talk among yourselves.
I know that this the beta phase and many are curious about the levels......but quantity over quality is not my game plan
I've been posting a lot, but at the same time I'm trying to add content. Or, when there isn't content, at least add to the community spirit.
The beta period is also about load testing, even though they aren't on the final servers, so the speed posting going on in some threads can help stress-test the system.
Eh, there's a lot of excitement and fun right now, please we're effectively testing the systems. I think it will cool off as time goes on. Besides, I think its cool to be able to jockey for position in this beta phase as "original members" when it comes time to officially throw the switch on March 1st.
Perhaps for some , it is reinforcing old behavious acquired elsewhere.
At least there are very few "+1" and "me, too" posts !
I think you are doing a great job of both! Keep up the good work.
To answer your question, yes it is, though I have to admit the "I want to be liked" thread cracks me up in context (I admit to using it once). I also have made a quite a few more glib comments here than I would have on FT. I chalk it up to being caught up on a new board with fancy features.
But as someone mentioned elsewhere I think it will die down as people get tired of the novelty of running up their scores.
Thanks. I hope you'll add photos to the travelogs- I tried to set that up as an easy format for people to contribute, an easy way to build content.
Those threads show how the "likes" serve a purpose- they are a strong incentive for people to contribute.

Things can get addictive - and yes it will die down soon (if not by 3/1). This being said, I have made a couple of friends on that thread that have led to their own conversations...some with over 300 replies. None of the replies obviously count for posts or for likes and they can't be liked. What does this mean? Not much other than its another way to build community....Many roads lead to Rome...
I didn't realize there was such a thread. Thanks for the heads-up. Appreciate the effort
One member added Rome to the collection this morning. One thing that hasn't happened enough yet- is for people to start those photo travelogues about their home towns. Of course, world travelers typically explore everything except their own back yards. How many of us have good photos of our home towns?
That is a very astute observation (no sarcasm) - I was just thinking I have no good pictures of the places I that I have called home.....though I (as undoubtedly most here) have a lot of vacation photos.
Going off topic here, but one year we booked a hotel room in downtown Chicago for a couple of nights between xmas and new years- got a really good rate, it was a 25 minute drive from where we lived. Great vacation, looked at the city I grew up in with new eyes; we behaved like kettle tourists and had a fantastic, inexpensive time.
Yes, the race for status is turning into a disastor here.
I think every vacation ideally should have a so called "kettle" moment....when you see something or experience something which makes you go "Wow" and generally stand there looking like a complete newbie Life is about experiences......and the best way to do that is to stay young at heart (imho)
While folks are in a posting craze, it would be nice for those that have not added any relevant content to do so.
When Randy and two no neck goons showed up at my home, that was their suggestion.
I think the concept of a "kettle moment" needs to be added to our lexicon here.
Feel free to quote me on it (laughing) - heaven knows I have had enough of them myself
BTW, milchap, sorry to derail the discussion; your point is an important one to consider.
But I am still smiling at "kettle moment".
How about our home area? DEN is nice and all, but really what do people think of? Our mountains of course! I'll have to see what I've got on the server when I get home.
Since I have only seen old Stapleton(sp?) airport, I would love to see more of DEN. Looking forward to seeing your presentation of your home area
I'm trying to put one together for Chicago, and realized I don't have that many pix.
Lots of pix of architectural ornament, gargoyles, and details, but only a few pictures that tell about the city.
Of course, it only takes 3 or 4 to seed a good thread, then hopefully others will follow suit and contribute.
This can also test how people play around the rules and how the proper workflow is for them to adjust the backend.
