Is it OK to post here and on Flyertalk, or is that considered cross posting/rude?

There are things I like on both forums, but I would like to choose one to use primarily just for simplicity's sake. I was going to post something here on milepoint that I posted on FT to gauge and compare the response, but I didn't want to break any rules or etiqutte, so I thought I would ask here first :)

Thanks in advance for the feedback...

It doesn't matter. As long as you only post it once on each site.

Actually, we don't have the hard coded rule here about posting more than once; if something is really appropriate for two different forums here, no one will slap your wrist for posting in both places.

That said, when I've done that, I've posted the full info in one forum, and in another forum posted with a basic outline of the info and a pointer to my first thread, just to keep things a bit cleaner and neater.

Except a critical mass of members for cogent and timely discussions of many topics.

Maybe we'll get there eventually but anyone who says that this community is sufficient to replace the knowledge and community base on FlyerTalk is lying to themselves. The two are very different but as of right now the total volume of information is still much greater there, as is the pace of discussion on most topics and in most program fora.

I agree, but for someone like me who is just starting out, it seems much easier to find answers to topics on MP. FT is so overloaded with info from way back when that it's almost confusing and tiresome at times. Just my .02.

Comparisons are tempting but not really fair. For a site that is only 4 months old (including the beta period) this site has a phenomenal amount of information and knowledge. The potential is very clear.

If we had wiki posts (think FatWallet) so the best of the thread info could be aggregated and easily discovered, that would influence my decision :)

I have posted the same info (promos, discount codes, etc) on both sites. I see nothing wrong with it and more appropriately, it helps both board's content.

Exactly. You can hit the New Posts button on FT and see constantly changing topics while things seem pretty static were one to do the same thing on MP.

I'm happy with the topics that we have. Haha - ft does indeed have a bunch more going on ... But a decade+ head start, too.

This months Conde Nasty had a number of references to Milepoint, Randy and Gary. The publicity machine - consciously or subconsciously - is working well for mp - those would have been ft references a year ago.

It is a bit cumbersome to follow both boards, but I find I learn news over there and often then discuss it here. The functionality here is much better for keeping track of conversations and the flame factor is much, much lower here. Debates seem able to end with an "agree to disagree" here versus someone getting suspended over there.

Incidentally, as if to demonstrate the power of MP, I posted a similar question on FT and MP earlier today and the number of answers on FT was 1 and the number on MP was at least 4 or 5.

FP? :) That's it, I've got the next best website! It will be the next big thing! I'll call it FlyerPoint!

Makes me think of this hilarious video. Profanity included so NSFW:

Too late. I have registered the domain name and secured TM registration in 124 countries. I also fixed the typo.

Do you mean the June 2011 issue of Conde Nast Traveler? I can't find anything there.

Cross posting between BB's that have similar topics is common all over the internet, so why not between these two? We do spend a good amount of time here discussing what we may be like when we grow up and if we ever will, but that is common among infants everywhere, I think, and continues through adolescence. In my case it lasts through almost all of adulthood too. I see nothing objectionable in that. Here on MP we are building new content so there is naturally much more discussion of how to organize it and how to get everything we want. That makes it far more vibrant, doesn't it?

It just came, so I think it's July (though I don't have it in front of me). The mentions were in the Wendy Perrin article...which is basically just a recap of all the offers discussed on FT's MilesBuzz.

Last month, I posted about the Vacationist.com/PHG Check-in for Japan hotel deal first on MP and then on FT. I posted greater detail on MP, but it got almost no traffic, and hardly any responses. And it's been in my signature on both forums. (I'll remove it soon; the promo has all but wrapped up.)

It was better received on FT. I'm hopeful that milepoint will develop a better flow of information for discussing hotel and mileage run deals.
