Is FF award availability for AA flights restricted?

  1. When I log on to my American Airlines account I can see dates when frequent flyer tickets are available. But when I log on to my Alaska Airlines account and look at their calendar, these dates are often not available. What gives? Does AA limit the number of FF seats that can be booked using Alaska points? I've seen this problem with both international and domestic flights.

    It would not surprise me. Many FF programs openly provide more award inventory for their won FFs and in this case, Alaska isn't even in the alliance with AA. However, it might be that Alaska miles can only be used for AA flights at the lowest price in miles and the AA website is showing availability of higher level inventory.
