Recently (Feb2) on TG925 from Muc to BKK in First. Noted on menu that Dom is no longer the welcome drink effective mid Feb. Can anyone confirm?

Which Champagne did they serve as welcome drink? Some airlines do serve inferior brands on the ground, and then will pop the good stuff once airborne.

Or is this perhaps just another TG ran out of Dom and had to serve Bollinger on the return leg?

Served Dom on this flight as welcome drink and during flight. No shortage! Menu said change to take place mid Feb. Can't remember name of new welcome but not Dom.

  4. The new welcome drink is veuve clicquot rose. This was officially the 'new' drink as from Feb 14th. Dom is still available throughout the flight however.

In my experience that retails at at less than half of Dom, so must be a cost saving initiative, or "enhancement" which is the same in airline marketing speak.

I believe welcome drinks, i.e. served on the ground, are liable to be taxed, which would also play a part in the equation.

As it's been said that alcohol tastes differently at altitude shouldn't the Dom be served on the ground and the cheaper stuff in the air?

    Kidding. [IMG]

Had Dom for our welcome drink on ZRH-BKK last week. I think there was only one bottle of Dom on the flight though as we were switched to a Rose after what seemed like a very small number of drinks. The load was 3 of 8.

On my C flights on TG (4) this summer, the welcome drink was the German sekt Fürst Metterich. What a discrase! When up in the air they didnt even have the bottle of Pieper Heidsieck on the trolley. Had to ask for it, and several times I felt like I had given them so much extra job by asking! Thanks a lot, Thai!

I think this is standard practice by Thai to not put out champagne on the drinks trolley. Agree that it is a bit troublesome to have to ask for it and for the cabin crew to have to go back and forth to the galley every time I ask for it, although the crew will always oblige to the request. On busy flights, I usually just have whatever they have on the trolley.

    I had Dom in July for both TG932 (BKK-CDG) and TG971 (ZRH-BKK).

Was MUC-BKK 12/5 and Dom was the welcome drink. Frankly, my palette is too pedestrian to notice.

    What was offered?

How often is the BKK-NRT TG equipment changed to 2 classes of service? Do they compensate if this happens if you're booked in F?

We had Dom on offer for pre-departure and whilst in flight... It was a 2002 Vintage :p

Not sure about the EQ Swaps for TG.

Now if they do this to keep it cold - I could live with it;) Warm champagne is awful - but that's probably not why they do it,
