Okay, so I'm a bit of a foodie and amateur chef (as in have applied for Chopped Amateurs, waiting on a callback) with some here-and-there culinary training and experience, but nothing "professional." We had my wife's birthday dinner at Roy's in Kaanapali list night and while talking to the GM about the dinner, Hawaii experiences, and how their kitchen ran (we had a great view of "the pass") I made the offhand comment that I'd come wash dishes just to see from the inside how their kitchen ran. The GM looked at me and said "would you like to join us in the kitchen tomorrow night for dinner? We can put you to work!" I'm supposed to call her back this morning to talk about when, and I'm out looking for something appropriate to wear to work in a kitchen (being on vacation, I didn't bring anything) this morning. May sound strange to some to want to work in a kitchen on vacation, but this is an experience I can talk about for a long, long time. I can't wait! PS - I'm of the full understanding that "lucky" will describe simply observing in the kitchen. I'm under no pretense that I'm going to be allowed to cook anything, especially given how outclassed I'll be by the other trained, experienced folks. Just sayin', "that's hot!"
