In May, SPG launched the beta version of an experience called SPG Social, a Facebook-powered travel recommendation tool aimed at making travel planning easy, social and fun! We got some great feedback from our members about site usability and ways to enhance the experience.

Today, we are excited to launch a redesigned version of this experience called SPG Social Traveler to help address member feedback.

The site is divided into three main components: Discover, Plan and Share.
    • DISCOVER:
o View personalized hotel recommendations based on your stay history, and you and your friends’ social check-ins and likes.
o Create wishlists to keep a running list of where you want to go.
o You can also see “Trending” hotels in our portfolio—our most-liked, checked-into and wishlisted hotels.
    • PLAN:
o Create an itinerary for your upcoming trip, or create a to-do list where you live. This section pulls in the most popular foursquare venues nearby, and lets you search by venue type (restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, nightlife) to add them to your itineraries
    • SHARE:
o Share your upcoming stays, itineraries and wishlists with your social network. Don’t worry, you can control sharing upcoming stays, full wishlists & itineraries. The only action auto shared are hotels you wishlist. Change these settings under “My Share Preferences”.

We have exciting enhancements and new features slated for the coming months, and are always looking for more feedback. If you have any thoughts on how social media can help enhance your travel experiences, please send them our way!

And as always, the Starwood Social Media Team is here to answer any questions you may have.

FB? I do not understand why SPG/Starwood could not build this into their own website. Or allow us to chose which social network to use. Building this into google would have been more appropriate.

It's not that they couldn't but I'd be that either a VP of marketing at SPG was in a meeting and said something along the lines of "we need to be more social - we need a Facebook app " or else their agency was like "you need a Facebook app" regardless of if there is any demand from consumers.

For me - not in a million years - wouldn't want my FB friends seeing my travel style since I'm not a professional travel blogger.
