Reviewed extensively with tons of photos in my recent trip report
    http://milepoint.com/forums/threads...-a-suite-villa-and-incredible-food-porn.4234/

I booked a Shophouse Suite on Friends & Family prepaid rate, upgraded to Ambassador Suite as I had been told to expect. Large comfortable room, could use a refurbish. Good location, nice enough hotel but hardly amazing.

Club lounge was very busy. Always escortted to a table in the morning in the lounge and brought coffee right away, always tough to get service subsequently. Variety of hot and cold items at breakfast, never got over to the lounge for evening canapes.

Very good value for the money, I was happy with the stay, but overall a bit disappointed.

Tons of photos in the trip report but here's a few:

This hotel used to be my go-to place in Singapore. I found the service to be excellent and as a Plat Ambassador (was) they would always give me generous upgrades to Shophouse suites and one time even to an Ambassador suite. The club lounge staff was always the highlight of my every stay there.

I haven't stayed in this property after I made Hyatt Diamond last year, and it's quite disappointing to read that the service level had dropped.

  3. I was there in late January and while not overly impressed with the "freshness" of the property the service levels were good. I had an issue with them that has yet to be resolved. I used my Bogo for the 3nd night of a three night stay and at checkin they told me I would have to downsize my room after day one. I suggested they do it at checkin but they didn't and I was given a shophouse suite and thye never asked me to change the next day although I was out all day. I checked out w/o getting my final bill but then I noticed they had "upgraded" my rate by over $100 a night to the BOGO rate when I finally got it and thye did it for all 3 nights. I have "engaged" AMEX my CC provider to fight that as they agree the reservation rate is what I should have gotten.

That's not very nice of them to do that! I hope you're successful in your fight!

Still my "regular home" in SIN . This in a booking confirmation received from them today:
"Royal Ambassador, In Room Broadband Internet Access inclusive..."
I have received this benefit since it kicked in on 1 March, but nice to see it in print in the confirmation.

I found the IC Sin very rigid with entitlements, giving no more than the minimum they absolutely had to give. I am fine with that, but really theres a lot more to be gained from smiling and saying Of.course Madam, and the good will gained by pleasing their RAs with tiny stuff.

I come to SIN often for work, about once a month or so. The IC used to be my home there until mid-2010 when I made Diamond with Hyatt and switched all my stays to the Grand Hyatt. I’ve always been treated very well at the GH but recently the stays were getting very predictable and didn’t give me the same high anymore. I was feeling nostalgic and I was curious about the newly-renovated Shophouse Suites at the IC, so I decided to spend a couple of nights there on my last SIN trip.

I had about 35K of orphan points left on my PC account so I used most of it to re-activate my Ambassador. I emailed the hotel asking what room category I should book if I wanted to be upgraded to the Shophouse Suite. All the emails were promptly replied to and as soon as I made the booking, my reservation was showing as upgraded to the Shophouse Club Suite.

I arrived at the IC around 1PM after another very good stay at the GH and was quickly ushered to the reception desk. The agent thanked me for being an AMB and I was escorted to the Club lounge for check-in. Check-in was taken very seriously. First I was given a Welcome card and then the agent went through the list of benefits I was entitled to as a Club guest. But the check-in was also a lot of fun. The Club staff who did the check-in was very chirpy, cheeky, and borderline flirtatious with me. It was certainly a different and very refreshing face to the usual formality.

Check-in was completed quickly and I was escorted to my room, which was a long hike from the lounge. I was offered to take the short cut, but decided to go the long way. The room was located on the 3rd floor of the Shophouse wing, which had an open-air hallway. The newly renovated Suite was beautiful. It had a small foyer, a living/working area, a separate bedroom, and a large bathroom, which could be accessed from both the bedroom and the foyer. However, the hardwood floor was not replaced during the renovation and there were quite a lot of scruff marks on the wall that made the room felt dated. I guess the hotel wanted to retain some characters of the Shophouse rooms.

    IMG-20120303-01141.jpg

The Ambassador amenity was already in the room when I arrived. It was a fruit plate, a couple bottles of Fiji water, a couple of chocolates, and a cold oshibori. Inexplicably, these were taken away the next morning and weren’t replaced.

    IMG-20120303-01143.jpg

The windows on the room open to the Bugis Junction mall. I had no problems with the noise from the mall, in fact I did some work in the room, I was able to concentrate well and wasn’t bothered by the noise at all, even though it was Sunday afternoon. Internet is free in the lounge and in-room. Although the wireless connection in the room is a bit iffy. I also found it quite annoying having to enter username and password most of the time when I wanted to connect to the wireless.

I did find the short cut from the room to the lounge, but not after getting lost a couple of times. The room actually ended up being very close to the lounge.

The Club lounge looked every bit as new as when it was first opened back in 2008. Although it was unfortunate that the Club Manager and all the staff that used to take care of me really well in the past, were gone. There was only one lady that I could recognize from previous visits, but she didn’t recognize me.

    IMG-20120304-01151.jpg

The lounge had an Afternoon Tea service in addition to Breakfast and Evening Cocktail. The Afternoon Tea consisted of two types of sandwiches, assorted scones with cream and jam, and 3 types of desserts. There had been some cutbacks on the Evening Cocktail offerings, and although it featured no less than 4 types of hot dish, I thought the spread at the GH was much more impressive. As a Club Guest, there was also an option to have breakfast at the main restaurant or the lounge. Both days I had mine in the lounge and the spread was very impressive, including a chef to cook any style of eggs you want.

    IMG-20120304-01152.jpg

The service in the lounge was very good, although not remarkable. All the staff was very polite and friendly, but certainly not as polished as their predecessors. The lounge was extremely busy during the evening cocktail on my first night and the service did suffer. It was obvious that there had been some cuts in manpower as well. Overall, I really missed the old Club staff. It was always very nice to return back to the hotel and catch up with them and they were always the highlights of my every stay there.

    IMG-20120304-01153.jpg

Overall, it was a very good stay. The Shophouse Suite was just beautiful and the hotel was very well maintained and certainly didn’t look its age. I would come back for sure, but will not make it my home in SIN again. Even though the IC is typically priced cheaper (even more so with the F&F rate) than the GH, I do feel that as a Hyatt Diamond, staying at the GH gives me a better value overall.

As a regular AMB I was told to book the Shophouse room in order to get upgraded to the Shophouse Suite. It seems that after the renovation, all rooms and suites in the Shophouse wing come with Club access. But I could be wrong on this, not 100% sure.

If you need to contact the hotel, their email address is SINHB-GSTRLNS@interconti.com.

Thanks for an excellent reviews gleff and cennas! I am considering buying into AMB and do a tour of their properties in Thailand and Singapore, and the Shophouse suite is definitely on my list :)

I just returned from SIN IC with 2 seperate stays a few days apart. (was there on a 3 week, between Hilton and here) My stay was nothing short of amazing. Im a regular Ambassador. Booked the cheapest room and was upgarded to a JR suite, the L shaped rooms refered to in other forums. Very nice and spacious, seperate sitting area ect. I was also offered to upgrade to lounge access for S80, which i did. Breakfast, Internet and Club drinks....well worth it. I truely enjoyed the lounge, very nice setup, impressive layout with a victorian feel. The next 4 days, I booked a shophouse club.(better deal to just book with the room rate)

When i checked in, Jana noted it was my birthday......and i advised my trip had been extended so i was stuck in Singapore through July 4th. Jana upgraded be to a 1 bedroom, Shophouse suite.....these are great and very nicely renovated. No noise issues at all for me. The team was great and Jana also gove me a cake with my name and a Happy Birthday......truely great service.

I will be back in about 6 weeks and wont be staying at the Hilton, i like this area and the Hotel much better(Im Diamond at Hilton, but get much better service and upgrades here!!!) Victoria bar was nice, the Smurf and Ain took great care of me as well.

How crowded was the club during your stays? I'm thinking of staying here on my next visit to SIN in a few weeks time as I really like the club, but they tend to oversell it and sometimes the overcrowding issue is so bad it feels like a zoo during service hours!

Club in SIngapore is very large, as I'm sure you know. Over the time I was there, it did fill up to about 85%, but there was always a table available. I found the club lounge to be very nice, it is a prime consideration with all my stays. I will report back after my trip during F1, as this will be a true test of upgrades and the lounge. I should have my RA status by then.

I think the 80S dollar price for upgrades, keeps the lounge in check.......otherwise people need to book in their room rate....which many choose not to do.

One last note, the IC Singapore doesnt make up room categories, so people need to book accordingly. They often do exceed the 1 or 2 category upgrade for Ambassador or RA's and oftern upgrade in advance. My next stay was upgraded 3 categories and 6 weeks in advance, as an RA. Wish all IC's would take note of this.

Another great stay here, always get your upgrades, in the Ambassador Suite for 3 nights.... 2 mini bars in the room, nice 1300 sq foot suite. Recieved a 3 level upgrade this trip instead of the normal 2.

Lounge staff is still one of the best anywhere, great service and location.

I just booked a Intercontinental Club Room as an RA (on a BOGO night for 4 nights) and was upgraded to a Shophouse Suite.
