    InterContinental Singapore refreshes shophouse rooms:)

InterContinental Singapore, located in the Bugis Junction complex, has unveiled its signature Peranakan wing which has been closed since February for refurbishment.

The refreshed product consists of 65 shophouse units – 54 rooms and 11 suites, whose foundations date back to the 1920s and are inspired by the unique Malay-Strats Chinese culture.

Love these rooms. One gets to feel as if you're living in a Somerset Maugham or Graham Green novel!

I was upgraded to a very nice Shophouse suite 3 years back, when I was still Plat Amb. The agent who escorted me said that the suite was a sort of prototype room and was really, really nice.

I also love the Peranakan wing as it makes for a very unique stay experience, although the room can be a bit dark during the day due to lack of natural light and it can be very noisy as the window opens to the Bugis Junction mall below.

I am not too fond of the Shop House rooms. Too far away to walk from the elevator! :D

Was given a guided tour of one of the newly renovated suites last week. It looked nice and felt modern but comfortable. The duck-egg blue walls on entry were a surprise, but nice bathroom, nice ambience...now to get that free tryout I was promised!

But handy for the lounge....if you can get a nearby room that is :D. My only problem was that it was too far from the pool :D.

I just booked a basic club room (05OCT12) and was upgraded (as an RA) to a Shophouse Suite. Very nice, great views, and yes SQ LPP, a tiny bit of a walk from the lift. ;)

+1 on this... Have been in the Shophouse Suites a few times in the last 3 months..... I think they hold onto the Character of Singapore, and are well done. I will take these rooms over the Ambassador Suites..... although the views from the 16th floor or nice.

Shophouse Suite is great room for Singapore at a reasonable price, the Style of these rooms give a true Singaporean feel.

PS, most of us that are on this forum could probably use a walk from the elevator, I know that I could!!

Actually there's a shortcut from the Shophouse wing to the Club lounge/lobby using a set of somewhat hidden staircases. The club staff who escorted me to the Suite after checking in told me about this shortcut but she didn't actually show me where to find the staircase. I set out to find it and managed to but not before getting lost at least two times :).

Sounds good! Last time I was in Singapore is 20+ years ago... Need to convince my boss they should send me there instead of one of the 2 Asian account consultants! :D
