Is there a way to insert a table into a post and keep its formatting?

One possible solution would be to take a screen shot of the table and turn the screen shot / table into a picture - then insert the picture.

It can be done to a limited degree, the bbcode used here is very awkward with tables.
Just importing it or copy/paste will probably get messed up. The following does work:
    Code:
    [TABLE][TR][TD1]cell 1
    [/TD1][TD1][/TD1][TD1]cell 2
    [/TD1][TD1][/TD1][TD1]cell 3
    [/TD1][/TR][TR][TD1]cell 4
    [/TD1][TD1][/TD1][TD1]cell 5
    [/TD1][TD1][/TD1][TD1]cell 6
    [/TD1][/TR][TR][TD1]cell 7
    [/TD1][TD1][/TD1][TD1]cell 8
    [/TD1][TD1][TD1]cell 9
    [/TD1][/TR][TR][TD1]cell 10
    [/TD1][TD1] [/TD1][TD1] cell 11
    [/TD1][TD1][/TD1][TD1]cell 12[/TD1][/TR][/TABLE]
    cell 1
    cell 2
    cell 3
    cell 4
    cell 5
    cell 6
    cell 7
    cell 8
    cell 9
    cell 10
    cell 11
    cell 12

Ouch. Thanks for this..maybe I will try it. For now, I converted to jpeg and inserted as image but then lose the abiltiy to hyperlink and click through where appropriate.

What I posted is really simple html, it seems that if the formatting gets much more complex than that it falls apart. I know using the center tag screws things up a lot.

Here is the same table with the center tag. It won't just center a table or a cell, it automatically centers every element separately.

    cell 1

    cell 2
    cell 3
    cell 4

    cell 5
    cell 6
    cell 7

    cell 8
    cell 9
    cell 10

    cell 11
    cell 12
