The Mangala Express was travelling from Delhi to Ernakulam in southern Kerala state when it derailed near Nasik city.

Rescue teams have been sent to the accident site, with reports of some passengers trapped.

India's railway network operates 9,000 passenger trains and carries some 18 million passengers every day.
