My oldest son has been in basic training for the Navy for the last 8 weeks, and I got the call today that he passed the all-night, comprehensive, final testing phase and was given his Navy ballcap this morning.

So its official... Uncle Sam owns him for the next 6 years.

I'm going to Chicago for the weekend to see the formal graduation ceremony, then he's off to Pensacola Florida for the next several months for Airman School. (He wants to do Aviation Electronics)

I waver between feeling really proud, and feeling really old. :)

Will post photos of the ceremony when I get back... its supposed to be pretty cool :)

    I'm in the Navy too!

So, he just passed battle stations... I was there 8 years ago. Good times!

Basic firefighting and the (tear) gas chamber are memorable...

The glasses... the old BCGs :)

It's tough being a mom and I'm not looking forward to the day mine leaves the nest. Well, maybe just a bit[IMG] Congratulations!
    btw- the glasses look great.

Stick to the "really proud". I would not have guessed you're old enough to have a son in the Navy! [IMG]

    Congratulations, you should be proud.

Now that you're a Navy Mom, I do have a couple of questions:
    1. Can you sail the seven seas?
    2. Can you put your mind at ease?

In your pic I would've sworn you were late 20s, early 30s. It's been made very clear to me (many times) that it's very dangerous to guess women's ages.

OnTopic: Congrats. You must be very proud.

Congratulations!! My son is a Marine and spent almost a year in Pensacola, also in aviation electronics.

    Have fun at the graduation!

Congratulations! Navy is the only way to go (or at least that was what was beaten into my head by the Captain at a very young age)! [IMG]

Congratulations! You should be very proud.

My Nephew was accepted into Army Flight School last week. He will graduate from college in May and then it's off to learn to fly helicopters in August.

Pensacola is a great place to be stationed. I live about an hour away and have family in P'Cola.

You will have to make the trip to P'Cola at some point, while you son is there, to see the Blue Angels perform. Their air show is a site to behold. It is even more enjoyable to watch it from a boat along the beach.

Congratulations. Be careful around Great Lakes while you're there - the neighborhood can still be a little dicey in a couple of directions.

It's fun being in downtown Chicago on a Saturday afternoon in the summer when a group of young men and women dressed up in uniform pour out of the Metra station at Oglivie Center headed for Michigan Avenue. They're always so excited!

his departure for Pensacola has been delayed for a couple weeks, so I'm flying to Chicago just to spend the day with him on Sunday. OK, truthfully ... to eat at Portillos again and spend the day with him

    Congratulations!

Thank you for your service! Question: How do you keep your status and be in the Navy? I'm thinking joining the AF but I don't want to lose my status:p
