    I let 4 SWUs expire on 1/31.

I thought they expired on 2/28(it was my first year as a 1K in 5 years), so we had a trip planned in February. But when I went to upgrade the agent informed me. *Exhale*

    Oh Well.

Here's some good news. On MilePoint, members will be free to give away these sort of coupons to other members within forums. While we will eventually have a unique system for Coupon Connection, free giveaways will be encouraged within the forums (that is where you are willing to give them to any other member with no expectations of anything in return. If you are looking for an exchange, please wait until the new forum is set up—thanks). And yes, what were you thinking! Here's the deal. you friended me many years ago on one of my visits to SEA so if i can help with an upgrade, let me know i *may* have something left in my quiver as a UGS.

You know that you can call the 1k desk and get an extension till April?

It's probably too late, as January 31 had come and gone. And you could only extend one and have to be a current 1K to do it. But it never hurts to try. Call MP Customer Service.

Indeed, the worst they can say is no.

  6. Agree. It's a bit like closing the barn door after the horses have run out. But perhaps there's still one lurking in the barn.

I like the idea of in-forum gifting offers but solicitations for exchanges should be banned.

    Big loss, indeed!

I also like the in-forum sharing . However, that might attract too many new people just for the coupons.

This should be reflected in your MP Status. MP = Mileage Plus and milepoint [IMG]

Wow... thanks Randy & Tom for the kind offers. Sadly, the "babymoon" was canceled.

The goods and the bads of the tale... my wife has gotten used to this whole "Upgrade" thing over the past 6 years. She didn't like the idea of flying in coach at 26 weeks pregnant, so I was able to cancel the trip in that 24-hour window.

United would have extended the life of one SWU, if I requal'd for 1K, but I didn't.

    Oh well.

And how about M+ for Mileage Plus, and MP for MilePoint? :)

I can see it know, the IRS puts a hawk in the forum and tries to make the giving of upgrades a taxable event.

On the upside, once the baby comes, she can start flying again, and if you buy a seat for the baby, even Y class will feel a bit more spacious... [IMG]

On the downside, once you have a family, the CR1s and SWUs burn a lot faster. My husband didn't requal for 1K last year (with 80k miles, I couldn't convince him to MR it to 100), so now I'm supporting a family of four on just my 1K back - gulp.

All they can do is say no. It would be the famous 'one time exception" :)

There was a report on another famous FF travel site [IMG] that one was able to negotiate some CR-1's in lieu of the SWU's. Worth a shot. Something is better than nothing. And a pregnant wife story can be very compelling.

I really hope there won't be a begging for upgrades nature to the forums. I find it very unpleasant.

Part of the "problem" was what with all the double EQM and Elite Choice offers floating around, it wasn't too hard to accumulate eight or 10 SWU for 2010.

I let three expire, and extended a fourth to April (already used).

With UDU I'll probably be letting a lot of CR1's expire too. I never used my December ones, and probably won't use my March ones, either.

Probably worth offering the dying CR-1s on MilePoint for those who don't get UDUs or those 1Ks who ran out of CR-1s and have a transcon facing them. Really a shame to let them expire when there are needy folks out there.

I would like others to note that United will now deposit 1K's SWUs into their accounts upon qualification for 1K status and once one has earned 100,000 EQMs. This means they will be good for a year from the time you reach 1K. I do not like this policy, as I prefer to have them deposited in January for a longer validity. Why doesn't United leave the same policy in place and allow an early deposit instead?

  23. I let all six of mine expire this year^

A few of mine expired as well. I just never found a good time to use them. Most of my flying in 2010 was domestic and UDU came through like clockwork. I used one pair for one TATL trip, but wound up on Z fares for the other couple trips.

Where are most of the people who constantly get upgraded flying in/out from? I am out of ORD and a Prem Exec and I only get UDU'd maybe 15% of the time - guessing its based on being in Chicago - so was wondering where others had more luck?
