IHG Rewards Club reveals new top tier level
Compared to Hilton Gold, I consider IHG Pt to be worthless, you can get both without staying one night by getting the right credit cards.
It'll be interesting to see if they new level provides anything that competes.
Upgrades and perks? Would be great to see a meaningful IHG status
Would be nice when all levels would want to compete and provide "real" benefits.
They will release details on a later date, we will have to see what's in store in regards to meaningful "real" benefits / perks.
IHG biggest draw to me was the non-expiry of points regardless of activities. This new rule has effectively removed their sole advantage. Does not help that they also have no possible life time status.
Even when they would have a Lifetime status on offer, I don't know, would I stay with them enough to warrant such status, and on the other side, would they give enough benefits / perks which would warrant to earn such status with IHG in the first place.
Yes, it's very sad to see the "never expire points" go. That's a huge disadvantage IMHO. As I menitoned above, it's time that IHG offers real benefits / perks in the future and this should be included on every level within their IHG Rewards Club progam. Also I wonder does IHG really need a two tier program ie. IHG Rewards Club and paid for Ambassador which concerns IC's? Would be a good start to see this all combined in the future / with real benefits / perks attached to it.
Thank you for posting this!
I am so with you on that one. Having IHG Club Platinum does little compared with HH and MR G (or higher), SPG P or HGP D.
I don't think they posted but i'd be curious to know if the "Bonus points" (Not the package points, those do count, but the extra 50% for plat) that Gold and Platinum members receive from stays will count towards this?
Instead of 10 points per dollar earned + bonus points + credit card = potentially 20 points per dollar.
Looks Like they are set to unveil the new tier next July 10th. A guest service manager told me they will receive training next July 7-9.
Thanks for your update. Cheers.
The IHG system is down due to maintenance, probably getting ready for the new changes. News arriving really soon!
Sometimes I fear that a new top tier membership will soon mean a new top tier award night redemption/category. It will be interesting to see what happens later this week.
I just talked to an IHG Staff member and she told me the training will begin next week, that they had some IT issues and are planning to release the info on July 17th or sooner. She also told me they are keeping this one pretty close to the chest.
Looks like the new status is live:
SPIRE ELITE - You can see already in your profile, but if you have achieved it won't migrate just yeat, should be officialy announced tomorrow.
I haven't seen the points expiry stuff. How long are they good for. I have 1.1 million of them and continue to maintain my RA status.
From May 2016, all IHG Rewards Club points will expire for any member who has not earned or redeemed any points in the previous 12 months.
So what news exactly was revealed now... Just the name?
ok that works for me. Thanks
So my current status states Points Expiration Date: Jan 13, 2017.
Dropped from Plat to Gold to Club.
Most of my stays are now Hilton / SPG
So, in order to safeguard my points, I think I might have to do a MR or buy some points.
If I buy points on July 1, 2016 (and assuming points post on July 1, 2016), will the new Expiry date be July 1, 2017 or Jan 13, 2018
If I stay on June 30, 2016 and checks-out on July 2, 2016, and points post on July 12, 2016, will the new Expiry date be June 30, 2017, July 2, 2017, July 12, 2017 or Jan 13, 2018.
I assume it pushes the exp date to one year from the last redemption or earning, so July 2017.
I just checked and my wife's points will expire in May of this year. I will probably just buy a song for 300 points. If we stay together at a IHG property it's better to use my plat account for credit.
Hmm.. I suspect as much but hoped someone would say otherwise.
So if I continue to bypass IHG for this year in favour of Hilton and SPG, I should only buy something in December 2016 or even early January 2017 so that I max out the 12 months.
Probably might wait for a lull period in between HHonors and SPG promos and book IHG. Trouble is that they both had been throwing up some good chain wide promos lately. Still things might change for SPG come June 2016 after the merger is finalized and more information is released.
Sometimes they have a promo where you get a hundred points for watching a video or doing a five question survey. But really, a 300 point song purchase isn't too bad; it will keep my wife's balance slightly over 30k, enough for some award(s).
Was really hoping that the new year would provide some sort of additional benefit(s) for Spire but seems like the 100% bonus is it.
