IHG Intercontinental close to acquiring Fairmont Hotels & Resorts
Why IHG acquiring Fairmont is the right, smart move
Hmm.. Maybe they will consider better membership benefits moving forward? I hate the current perks and the fact that earned points needs to be "reset" else forfeited was a horrible stab in the back.
What do you mean by "reset"
I think this is a great move as I know many major /cities that have Fairmont holes but no IC's.
The points expire if you have a quiet year and did not stay at their chain. They used not expire regardless of your account activity and I started with them for exactly that reason. Pity. Now I focus mainly on HHonors and SPG
Yes it's important to watch carefully and make sure you don't let them expire. I have a lot of points and don't want to give them back.
It would be nice if they combined these programs so we can use our points at Kimpton, and maybe eventually at Fairmont.
Typically chains eventually integrate rewards programs at some point after they acquire a company. It generally involves a major system change which takes time to implement.
Never stayed at a Fairmont in my life but have seen them in several cities. Generally speaking what Hotel would you compare them with?
You wishing? But it's a nice wish although it could probably cost you an arm and leg and some change.
That's OK having additional options is better then not having them.
hmmm, I feel the one in Singapore is like an IC or a good Westin.
There was a time when the Fairmont Singapore was a Westin, after this it was for a very short time the Raffles Plaza. The other hotel in the complex, the Swissotel The Stamford was also a Westin before.
Ditto, IHG is interested in the Fairmont brand as they could supplement existing IC's around the world. Raffles are one of a kind, they more like St. Regis / Four Seasons / Mandarin Oriental Hotels. Swissotels on the other side could be Westins or Pullman Hotels by Accor. We will see who will buy FRHI Hotels assets in the future.
We shouldn't forget that IHG would also interested to take over Movenpick Hotels and Resorts, interesting times, especially after the announcement that Marriott is set to take over Starwood Hotels and Resorts. There could be more consolidation ahead. Stay tuned.
