I didn't see this on the master list, but thought it had been addressed. Is it still on the blackboard, or was it determined no necessary?

(I hate the thought of ignoring users, but there are some that just irritate me and don't provide me any valuable content.)

This is actually something that is on our list but I missed adding it to the master list. It has been added, thanks!

I've decided to take matters into my own hands, at least for folks who have GreaseMonkey installed or are using Chrome. :D

Check out http://www.wandr.me/scripts/milepoint_ignore.user.js. Edit the script and you'll see an array at the top where you list the users you want to ignore. It is a case-sensitive literal string match which isn't necessarily ideal but it works so that's most important to me. Feedback is welcome. I'm sure that when I make updates it is going to overwrite your personal list and I have no idea how to work around that so I'd suggest a text file somewhere with the list after you create it. And if anyone knows how to make GreaseMonkey work where the data can be saved elsewhere so it doesn't get overwritten I'll make that adjustment.

The script just needs to be able to load a text file with names that you want ignored. I remember it being a relatively simple code exercise to do this in java, however it has been far too long since I've done any coding (I do more sys admin work)

I got someone to give me some code for storing it in a cookie. I gotta see about making that work, but not tonight. Still, it is a start and something is better than nothing.

can't one just scroll past a user that they don't appreciate?

I thought a goal of this board was to be more civilized than some others.

I agree but I guess some want a more permanent solution.

and some of us have to pay for web useage by bytes (sadly) so a prolific poster that I don't want to read would save me a few cents VBG but also a fair amount of time

    Sure.

And yet there are certainly examples where people are civilized yet still spouting off content that you might want to ignore. Yes, you can just scroll past but for those who want the additional option it certainly isn't bad to offer such to them. Just like I have the option to turn off seeing signatures - which I did because I find that they significantly decrease the readability of the forums - it is nice to have the option of "turning off" a user that is disruptive to you.

More options isn't a bad thing.

I didn't know that you could turn off signatures but I have a question for you. If you find signatures decrease the readability of the forum- why do you have such a large signature yourself?

BTW- I do agree that more options & choices are a good thing too.

Because some folks do like them and I like giving them that option. ;)

    Check the FAQ. It says:

    Can I hide the signatures?

Yes you can. To do so, select "Preferences" from your drop down Profile Menu. On your Preferences page, deselect the check box labeled, "Show people's signatures with their messages".

It also has a video on topic.

Thanks for the help in this thread KyRoamer. Also for an update on user ignore, it is coming as has been mentioned before some, but we don't have a date on jus when it is coming. There will be an announcement when it does come.

Hi Tim (and anyone else reading this)... I like the advanced bells & whistles of this forum software, but oh how I wish "ignore user" functionality was available. Any update on when this might arrive on MilePoint?

I don't have any specific dates, but an update that adds this functionality is in our plans.

I think I had a problem with this..

I just posted on the Community Lounge forum and all of a sudden my post disappeared, and I apparently ignored someone to which I shouldn't be ignoring.. I've never used the function before, and never knew it until this time when somehow the account decided to ignore a user.. Can someone please look into this?

As far as I know this issue has been resolved, though I would expect a thread created by someone you have ignored to not show up at all as the responses wouldn't necessarily make much sense without the context of the first post. (I'm not 100% sure of that though). It is possible you accidentally ignored someone though, you can check by visiting:

    http://milepoint.com/forums/account/ignored

If you have people listed there they are on ignore and you can remove them from ignore there as well.
