you get instant status and on a two night weekend booking, the second night is free -- which, in most properties, pays for the $200. Then you get all the perks of ambassor, including the coveted 8a checkin and 4p checkout.

It soulds like a good deal. What am I missing?

  2. It's Ambassador, NOT Royal Ambassador.
2nd night is at a higher rate booking than you could book without cert.

That woulda been a helluva deal, I had a suite at the IC Vienna, with 2 minibars, and have personal experience how quickly a group of FTers can clear them, same deal in Singapore[IMG]

I've got 2 minibars here in the Ambassador Suite at the IC Singapore right now! And to anyone reading this, I'm headed to dinner shortly, those minibars will be unattended for several hours... [IMG]

I've 'reported' the first post, asking for the title to be changed - let's see what happens [IMG]

I should lose status points for that headline. I wonder if it is still worth it to be Ambassador? If you get the free second night? For instance, I'm going to stay in NYC in 5 weeks so the second night at that hotel free would be valuable. I wonder how many stays would I need to go from Ambassador to Royal?

  13. I guess they did refill them after my stay there a few weeks ago. I had some fellow travellers w/o the privilege who thought they owned my suite!!![IMG]

Timely thread as we have also been debating the benefit of joining the Ambassador program. However not sure that we will have sufficient travel to justify the benefits. We do have a 2 day stay coming up at the Mark Hopkins where the late checkout would be useful, however other than that I can't see what we would get out of the program. The free internet may be the tipping point to make it worthwhile. I can't imagine we will ever earn the 20k bonus for 15 nights at the IC.

If you're only going to have one stay at an IC, then it will only really be worth it if you can use the free weekend night voucher and that saves you more than the cost of membership - but remember you have to book at the 'Ambassador Free Night' rate, which is usually the same as the best flexible rate, so you may save more by looking at advance purchase, Friends & family, etc.

The membership rate typically drops to only $100 from year two onwards and you can pay with points

You can also pay with points to join initially - it's currently 32,000 (but you get 5,000 of those straight back with the voucher code enclosed in your membership pack).

20,000 to renew (but still 5,000 back as a voucher, so net cost is 15,000 points)

Actually the Royal Ambassador referral certificate I received did say that it is $200 for someone to get the special Royal Ambassador benefits (probably set up so that someone joins as an Ambassador, and the certificate upgrades them to Royal)
