Glad to see that Icelandair is coming back to DC! I've missed the flights out of Baltimore since they were discontinued in 2008. This time they're starting off with four weekly flights from Dulles to Keflavik.

I wonder if an aeroplan mini-rtw to asia or australia could have a stop in iceland. (They are *A right?)

I was just in Reykjavik a couple of weeks ago and saw them advertising DC pretty heavily (bus shelters, that sort of thing)

You can earn miles on Alaska when flying them.

You could, just not with FI.

The only *A member flying into KEF is SK. :)

Actually, SK offers service to KEF only via codeshare with FI. So maybe you can collect miles on SK?

Unfortunately, Aeroplan's earning guide states that:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the SAS codeshares with FI are only on the flights between CPH/ARN - KEF (not OSL because of SK's flight OSL-KEF), and no codeshare trans-atlantic.

Codeshares on FI only give extra points!

FI is operating 5 weekly flight during peak season, instead of planned 4.

DL is already previously announced for JFK-KEF. DL will inaugurated on May 2011. I believe those routes should be done extremely very well. There is some more tougher competitions against FI. I believe DL will have 4x weekly service.

Seasonally FI operates 2x daily JFK-KEF. Adding DL's 5x weekly JFK-KEF I just don't get. I can't imagine filling 19 weekly non-stops in the current environment. But it's a really short transatlantic flight, doesn't burn more aircraft time than a transcon, so perhaps they can make it work even with pressure on yeilds.

Happy to have FI ex-IAD, though!

FI is operating JFK KEF 14 weekly for the first time in Summer 2011. Used to be 10 or 11. FI is using KEF as northern trans-atlantic connection to/from Europe.

As for DL, it is operating 5 weekly instead of daily, from June 2011.

Yes, but that peak season is only about 2 or 3 weeks.

Another option -- and possibly a substantially cheaper option at that -- from Washington to a variety of markets in Europe in the summer time is a development that I welcome even as the chances of me choosing FI over other carriers is rather slim most of the time.
