That was a sweetheart deal!
I recently got divorced, but just before then, I ran my SkyMiles balance down from 500k to 100k. The court split the 100k miles in two and assigned her 50,000 SkyMiles a dollar value of $1. That's because miles have no cash value (or a dollar, whatever).
She doesn't like flying, but she does like shopping, so I made her a deal ... you give me your 50,000 SkyMiles and I'll give you $180. Done.
Nice job Judge!
And here I was hoping for a link to this "deal!"
Great buy, Judge!
Well, good work judge!
Sorry to hear about the divorce however...
yeah, divorce sucks BIG time... the bright side was burning up 400k miles, and that last purchase I just made
I think every person that checked this thread was ready with credit card in hand. I know I was.
I was ready to try to say tactfully that buying DL miles isn't a good deal, assuming that there was a typo in the thread title or that this was really a transfer from some other program.
At $0.0036 per mile, I think even the most committed Delta-phobe would think that good value.
Yes, but at $0.036 per mile (assuming a typo), it's not at all a good deal.
Indeed. But it was a lot more expensive than that, something tells me the OP isn't 'fully costing' the transaction!
I'm confused. $180/50,000 = 0.0036. Where is the typo?
In times like these, I think you celebrate the little victories.
See, I finally found the advantage of having been married to someone who cares so little about travel, she needs hand-holding to book a roundtrip non-stop flight on the internet
There is no typo, but I initially thought there was when I saw the thread title. It seemed too good to be true.
I think the airlines need to run a Discover America Divorce Deal promo
To quote Kanye: "holla we want prenup!"
Did you pay her with cash or did you use a credit card?
(you could have used a credit card to pay her through paypal, and you'd earn points that way.)
Or he could have bought an Am Ex gc from BC and used it to buy a Visa card to pay off
This "deal" is highly targeted .
Actually, we traded a regular cash airline fare worth $180, i.e., I bought our kid an airline ticket for 180 bucks that Mommy ordinarily would be responsible for buying. She wanted to use miles but oh darn they didn't have any 25k award seats (and using 32.5 or more would be stupid), so I suggested this as an alternative (and he's on a non-stop AA flight, collecting miles for the journey, instead of connecting on DL).
Win win, I'd say...good thinkin' judge!
