Sound off and tell us why you joined.

Where I remain true to my Kiva roots, Zidisha is different. It is smaller, has minimal overhead (just one employee, the rest are volunteers), does peer to peer lending at costs to the borrower of between 5 and 20% and it allows me to earn interest to offset possible losses.

    A few facts
    Cumulative Statistics

    Report for All Countries

    Loans raised:
    USD 712,643

    Businesses financed:
    1,241

    Average lender interest:
    4.50%

    Write-off Rate:
    2.23%

    Repayment rate:
    97.77%

    Number of registered lenders:
    2,313

    Number of registered borrowers:
    1,067

    Countries represented by Zidisha members:
    84

The concept is interesting as no loans are pre-funded. Unless they have suffient appeal to secure funding they lapse unfunded. Borrowers specify a maximum interest rate and want-to-be lenders bid, often at much lower rates. Once the bids equal or exceed the funds needed, the borrower accepts the lowest bids.

Stop by www.zidisha.org and join our team. I look forward to seeing you there.

I joined because KyRoamer motivated me to look more carefully and fcjapan shamed me to do it. The direct process is far more involving than is the Kiva one, and the direct lending process is completely direct. So far I am impressed. I hope other people join in and help Zidisha grow and thrive.

    My pleasure :)

If anyone else needs shaming, just let me know. I also do guilt trips, hypnosis, violence, and blackmail -- just let me know what you need to take that final step to join Zidisha and get lending.

Almost 18 minutes and no new members

Therefore I will also branch into cajoling/flattery, voodoo/witchcraft, platonic romance, and air fresheners :) .

Someone, probably you KyRoamer, mentioned it in the Kiva thread and I did some quick research. I like the idea of fewer middle men and a lower overhead than Kiva. So a small investment later and I've a foot in the door to see how things develop.

No shaming by fcjapan or was necessary! Flattery might have made me move faster though ;-)

I just realized I never answered the thread title.

I joined Milepoint Zidisha because it was a tondoleo-free zone.

I just loaned another chunk, several to French-speakers, because tondoleo has decided to grace us with his presence. Come to think of it he's never given me a present. Has he given any of the rest of you one? Other than his presence, that is.

How pathetic do you think I am? Please take into consideration that jbc continues to like all of my posts in an attempt to have me buy him a veggie burger.

Luckily I planned to be here rather than ruin my day by being among CIA-sponsored ex-F&I man card dealer Bay of Pigs participating Watergate burglars. For those of you young whippersnappers who are ill-informed about US history, all of you I suppose, this reference is to Bernard Barker who completed his dishonorable career as an F&I man at Coral Gables (actually across the street from CG) own Chevrolet dealer now known as Maroone Chevrolet but then as Abraham Chevrolet.

So much has happened since I started this thread on January 21st, some 60 days ago.

    Loans raised: [IMG]
    USD 909,293

    Businesses financed: [IMG]
    1,644

    Average lender interest: [IMG]
    4.95%

    Write-off Rate: [IMG]
    1.94%

    Repayment rate: [IMG]
    98.06%

    Number of registered lenders:
    2,736

    Number of registered borrowers:
    1,515

    Countries represented by Zidisha members:
    92

The loans raised is up almost $200,000. Over 200 additional businesses were financed. The write-off rate fell. Zidisha gained over 420 new lenders and the average interest rate stayed under 5%.:)

And on April first, two members of our team at Zidisha will win iPad Minis. :)

Keep on lending. Let's be the first team to pass $200,000 in impact and let's help push Zidisha past the $1 million mark.
