Albeit buoyed by a bunch of Hyatt certificates, I spent an unbelievable amount of cash with Costco last year. There isn't too much I've seen in the store or on their website that I wouldn't consider buying if I was in the market for that item. They generally offer high quality items for very reasonable prices, and stand behind what they sell. Needless to say, I was a bit shocked when I saw THIS on Costco's website a few minutes ago.

Looking for is a bit of an overstatement. :p

Retailing for $479,999.99. They say the IGI value is $650K. Maybe I should buy it, put it in a blue box and resell it to Newt.

Any chance AMEX has a promo giving double miles for the purchase?

my Costco card doesn't have that kind of limit.

That would be 1 quick purchase to get a Centurion card though...although if I had that much money for a ring I doubt I'd but it from costco.com.

That's one of the things about Costco I've definitely found. If they carry it, it's unlikely you'll find a much better deal somewhere else. Assuming the IGI cert is correct, you could get an estimate of it's value from a certified diamond dealer. Not saying I would buy it to resell, but if I had my wife's diamond ring to do over again, and Costco carried certified stones, I would consider. Knowing that I could return it with no questions if I found something wrong is a big part of why I patronize Costco.

Something wrong with the ring? Or something wrong with the person for whom you buy it?

As much as I'm tempted to go to a no-sales-tax state to buy it, the extra starpoints for the tax are too good to pass up. Unfortunately, the CA sales tax just dropped 1% on July 1, so that is a bucket of starpoints I'll be missing out on.

Come to Chicago to buy it. Sales tax is 10.25%

The extra points will pay for your ticket, plus you'll earn miles on the flight, so it's a very profitable proposition. (As long as ORD TSA doesn't confiscate that dangerous ring on your return trip).
