Breaking up is hard to do...

    Dear AA,

I was loyal to you all these years, even though you constantly refused to give my home airport more attention (DEN). It wasn't easy, but I would take connecting flights through DFW/ORD/LAX/MIA, even though there were multiple direct flights on other carriers. I stayed true to you, and you treated me great at times, and not so great sometimes; but then every relationship has its ups and downs.

I know at times it seemed like I was cheating on you, but that only happened when I couldn't justify the connections and the occasional stranding at DFW or ORD.

I don't know if it's you or if it's me, but we have grown apart. Over most of last year I was asked to take the direct flights to my client, as they were much cheaper, and so I made 1k on UA. I still checked every week before booking my flight, and whenever I could justify it, I took a connection to be with you again.

I know I didn't live up to your expectations and didn't fly 100k EQMs, but I came as close as I could..but was still over 20k short :(. Your DBLEQ promo didn't kick in till very late in the year, almost right around when most corporate travel was winding down for me. You favored passengers from ORD and DFW and gave them DBLEQ to SFO and LAX for months and ignored DEN again. I tried AA, I tried, but I guess I didn't try hard enough for you.

You are canceling the ORD-DEL in march, a route I loved and frequented a lot. I understand you have to make some hard decisions, but these decisions are driving us further and further apart. I asked you to maybe reconsider my upcoming loss of status, but you said no. I don't blame you, you are doing whats fair according to you, it was a last ditch effort from me to still be with you, to try and justify the connections.

As I book my weekly flight to my new client on the east coast, I think about all the times I did crazy connections with you to get to NY or CLT. I am a bit sad, I will be on UA along with a few dozen other 1K passengers, It doesn't feel quite as special, but I hope that UA and I will have a good relationship.

I will miss the md-80s, and i will miss the super helpful people on the Executive Platinum desk. We were good together and I am sorry we grew apart. I don't know if i will ever come back though, I have to see how things work out with UA. I have already promised my remaining system-wides to a friend.
I know that I will see you again sometime soon, even if it is to redeem all those hundreds of thousands of miles I still have with you.

Take care of yourself AA, I wish you all the best for the future, and even though we are parting ways, i know you will always have a special place in my heart and that i will miss you..

Sadly AA cannot be all things to all people. DEN is UA territory and you're gonna get a better deal from them in terms of direct flights on almost any route. Best of luck with UA, and may all your SWUs clear. :)

Thank you. I know AA can't be all things to all people, and I am not leaving because i am annoyed with it. I am just bummed about not flying AA, as I cannot justify the connecting flights anymore, earlier i was able to get away with "i am executive platinum AND the connecting flights are cheaper..", however with the bump down to Plat, it just doesn't make sense anymore. *sigh*

I understand the spirit of it ab3i. Understand 100%. Perhaps if AA had a better CIO, things would work out well!!! Oh Wait, they have the BEST CIO!!!

I, too, was based in DEN for a long time (20+ years) and went out of my way to fly AA. Luckily when I relocated it was to territory dominated 95% by OW, so I keep my AA account in good condition, but I know how you feel, ab3i. UA can be good, but it's not AA. Happy travels!

I think you're asking too much of your spouse. I think a move to Dallas or Chicago would revive the relationship in to something beautiful ;)

It is going to take me a while to get away from what you call the dAArkside! Citi & AA have been extremely generous with CC bonuses & I thank them for that. lol

Now THAT would be a First Class product. Better Champagne than any other airline and over 30 LH Ducks and 15 Rimowa amenity kits ;)

AAAAACK! As a Colorado native (can't use the abbreviation here 'cause it means sumtin else) I would NEVER leave Colorado for an airline (I did leave for a paycheck); you are a sane person based on that statement alone. Go with the airline that better serves Heaven on Earth, and know you're welcome on the dAArkside anytime you need a good experience above 5280!
