Back in May there was discussion of Hyatt's plans to dump Portico, and goodness knows it won't come soon enough. I like ginger but their 'white ginger' smell doesn't cut it for me, and my wife tells me that many of hotel products work better for her.

Word is that Hyatt has selected KenetMD which is made by Gilchrist & Soames.

    http://kenetmd.com/skincare/

I haven't ever heard of KenetMD but apparently their narrative is a product produced by a dermatologist, scientific approach to skincare or some such. I look forward to trying it out. I rather hoped for L'Occitane, with Hilton rather going upmarket and all with Peter Thomas Roth, but perhaps these new bath amentiies will prove to be worth the search that went into them.

I don't know the timeframe for rollout, but in my view it can't come soon enough! :)

UPDATE: An informed sourcee confirms that this brand is under serious consideration but not final, what was shared with me earlier was a bit premature. Final decision amongst last contenders hasn't been set.

As for Peter Thomas Roth @ Hilton? We have it not seen at any property we stayed so far outside the USA! From Dublin to Athens via Belfast = No Peter Thomas Roth yet!

Thanks - really looking fwd to this change. I usually request Portico Quince & bergamot these days in place of White Ginger, which is truly vile.

See update -- this is certainly a finalist and appears to be a likely brand selected but I now have to say I am no longer certain that the choice is definite -- negative feedback could change things a bit. Sorry if I was premature :)

Too bad-- I've really enjoyed the Portico brand, especially the Eucalyptus stuff they have in Hawaii.

Maybe they could go with the stuff that Hyatt Mainz uses..

Thank you, Gleff, for the information.

And I detect you are being discrete about sources - and for obvious reasons. But, per chance, did you learn this from a private line rep named Barack? :D

I still haven't heard about a replacement for my private line rep, so no lines of communication there as far as I know!

I didn't know that the Quince Bergamot could be requested - that's really good to know!

I've had the one with ecualyptus at a couple properties (Park Hyatt DC comes to mind) and I've had to request removal as I'm violently allergic to eucalyptus.

I usually make the request at check-in and have never had a problem at multiple HRs (Vancouver, Boston, Cambridge etc) . On a recent multi-night stay in Vancouver, I left a generous tip for Housekeeping on the first day when they brought the Quince & Bergamot toiletries, and had them replenished every day thereafter with no problems.

As a bonus, the Q&B toiletries come in larger sizes, so you dont have to deal with the microscopic portions present in the regular Portico bottles.

I assume it will be too early to try the new toiletries during SMD3.

As far as I'm concerned they should save resources and go to gym- or Euro-style dispensers, like Aloft. And I really don't care what they put in them, since all these products clean hair and body equally well.

Now let's talk about the important stuff, like the incredible shrinking promotional landscape at all hotel chains.

I'm going to wager a guess that you are male?

I can assure you that the products are NOT equal from chain to chain. Some contain chemicals that dry out or strip hair (bad for those who chemically process in any way) and some brands contain fragrances or additives that are irritants to those of us with dry and/or sensitive skin.

Since airlines began the 3-1-1 rule, hotel toiletry choices have become extremely important to some of us as we can't automatically rely on our own stash of carefully selected goods on longer trips.

So while it might not matter to you, it's very important to some of us - to me, it's more important than who is offering what free promo.

You can also have them put the preference in your guest profile and Q&B will be waiting for you in the room. Along with anything else you might desire bathrobe or slippers.Saves me the hassles of requesting it and then they bring me some more White Ginger because they are not familiar with Q&B.

With all the people out their with allergies and skin sensitivities, and the fact that there are hypo-allergenic pillows and rooms, why doesn't Hyatt, along with other chains, just come out with basic unscented and sensitive skin products?

I'm sure most men would prefer not to smell like a woman and most women would appreciate the additional thought from management.

If anyone sees any of the Q+B at they Hyatt Regency O'Hare, let me know.

As I seem to be the only person on this board who likes the White Ginger stuff .... it would be nice to try another before everything changes. Again ;)

I do like Gilchrist & Soames, which Hyatt provides in some of their suites. Hopefully it's pretty similar.
