What would be the approximate times of the tour? Some of us have flights later that evening.

I was tempted to give Tommy a bad reason why I should be the person that gets to attend -- figuring that maybe "bad" is the new "good." But I decided to be a good girl and follow his instructions -- even though my "bad" reason is far better than my "good" reason. :D

Well, I already asked for one favor from you & thought, what the heck, already displayed my ignorance over the plane, maybe a behind the scenes tour of Hyatt will keep me from being a Hyatt idiot too! So yes, please Tommy, I'd love a Hyatt tour!

Though for numbers, this could easily have been a surprise upgrade benefit of Tommy Class rooms :p

Have the 15 lucky folks been selected and notified yet? If we've not received an email confirming, should we assume we lost out?

So it looks like there are 4 "winners" who I would call media, be they bloggers or Milepoint TV folks or Wall Street Journal writers. Now I'm not a Hyatt person, so it doesn't really matter to me. But perhaps the next time, we could just say there's 10 slots and then have the media folks just get 5 media slots or something.

Really enjoyed the opportunity to fill Mommypoints' place & do this visit.

We had a very warm welcome & orientation, then entered what looked like a hotel corridor. Most doors were open & we got to go inside & have a look at trial versions of rooms for Hyatt House & Hyatt Place. European, American & Asian versions.

They had Anthropologists looks at people when they check in. What they did, what they needed, & wanted, to feel at home & not out of the comfort zone, then set about building those things into the rooms. What a great idea!

Sometimes as simple as colours & decorations, or the bidet or basin style, or beverage accessories.

They identified that people have numerous rituals that are individual, or cultural. If these can be catered for, then the person will feel at home or at least less dislocated, faster. Speaking personally, for a long time I have been able to identify things I like to do as soon as I check in. The type of property I like, what makes it a great room or not, for me. Why I like to stay at the same hotel & in the same room each time I visit a city..

Great food for thought, and a very interesting visit.

Thanks Hyatt for your interest in our group.

Fascinating tour, hearing about the anthropological and ergonomic research that goes into designing the optimum functional hotel room. As well as the recognition of how all our gadgets require easily accessible, often multi-plug electrical outlets both by work areas as well as next to the bed. (BTW, someone in the group mentioned Toto toilets, and I found one in my room at the new Hyatt MM, albeit not with the spray features.) Will certainly help in designing my own next condo suite. (Wish developers would employ the same techniques when designing suites in their buildings, and give us truly functional floor plans and features.) Glad to have been invited along when one of the originals dropped out.

I didn't realize that Mommy Points had to give up her spot. So actually, there were no bloggers on this tour at all. They didn't really need to organize it around SMD4 if they just wanted to invite MilePoint TV or the WSJ to come take a look.

Err... although I wanted to go on this tour and didn't get to, I don't understand your posting. They had a limited number of spaces available, gave some of them to a broad interpretation of media folks who came on SMD4 (and probably wouldn't haven't flown to Chicago just for the access to the Hyatt test facility) and the rest of the spaces to us little people. If one of the bloggers couldn't make it (because she wanted to get back to her family) and that meant another non-media SMD4 attendee got to go, hey, that sounds great to me!

My point is they were not trying to fill up the slots with media. If that had been their goal, there were lots of other opportunities to invite the media outside of SMD4. MilePoint TV was already out at the Chicago area previously, and I'm sure Scott from WSJ has been through Chicago at some other point this year.

Thanks to all who came along. You were a great group! I wish we could have opened it up to more, but the facility is so small that we had to limit it. For those who missed out, we brought along Milepoint TV to share the experience. Check it out here.
