Had a one night stay at this property recently and thought I would write a review.

I arrived at the hotel around noon and the exterior of the hotel was rundown, but I had expected the interior to be better as the hotel had just finished its extensive renovation. It wasn't the case though, the lobby was dark and felt tired.

The front desk staff who checked me in was very business-like. No acknowledgment of my Diamond status, no offer of escorting me to the club lounge to complete the check in, nor any explanation about the Regency Club hours, etc.

I was upgraded to a city-view Club room, it was recently renovated and was very spacious. The interior was contemporary and stylish. The whole room had bare parquet floor, but the bed sit on a carpet. Very comfortable king bed and a couchette by the large window. Open plan marble bathroom was separated from the rest the living/sleeping area by an island which have the wash basin built onto it. The shower/bath tub area was very large. A large, flat screen TV (LG) was mounted on the wall and came with a DVD player.

Overall, the look of the room was was very nice, but after looking closer, there were already signs of wear and tear, like scratches on the table top, stains on the wall, etc. In fact, the whole hotel, even though was recently renovated, felt old and tired and not fresh.

The Regency Club lounge was located on the same floor as my room and had the same contemporary look as the room and boasted a nice view of the South China Sea, but unfortunately it was raining and overcast during my stay so I didn't get to witness the supposedly spectacular sunset.

Cocktail hours was from 5 pm to 7 pm and had a decent selection. Apart from the usual cold meat, cheese, chips, and crackers, there were two hot dishes you can order off the menu and a tureen of soup. The evening I was there, the selection was lamb and chicken satay, curry puff, and pumpkin cream soup. The satay was very good and I lost count of how many sticks I had. The service was very very good, very attentive with constant top up of my drinks and the satay. A one time during the evening, a manager of some sort came around and greeted everyone. The lounge was not too busy but there were lots of children, although they were mostly well behaved.

Breakfast selection was not as good as the evening cocktail. The usual cereal, breads and pastries, and pre-plated cold meats and salmon, porridge, and two hot dishes you can order off the menu. The selection that morning was Fried eggs with chicken sausage and hash brown and a local dish of Lontong.

I had to follow up with the lounge staff to receive my Diamond amenity and it was delivered promptly. It was a fruit plate, chocolate chip cookies, and a bottle of white wine (Sauvignon Blanc). I would think the bottle of wine was extra as I had indicated to the staff during the cocktail hours that I liked it.

There were a couple minor things that soured my stay though. One is that I was asked repeatedly by different staff members of the time I would leave the airport. Once was during check-in, the second one was by a lounge staff who called my room, the third one was in the morning when I was due to check out (again they called my room) and the fourth one was in the lounge when I was having breakfast. I had booked an airport transfer and had indicated I would leave the hotel at 10 am. And I had mentioned this during check-in, yet I was kept being asked again and again.

In fact, in the morning of my departure at about 8 am, a front desk staff called me to say that my driver had been waiting to take me to the airport. I told her that I had booked the car at 10 am and 3 different staff members had already asked me about my check-out time.

I got the feeling that they needed my room, but this incessant asking about my departure time made me feel like I was not welcome and made me feel like they wanted to get rid of me as fast as possible.

There was also a bit of problem during check out. I had booked a prepaid rate and the lounge staff who checked me out insisted that I hadn't and wanted to charge me the room rate. Even after he clarified with the reservation staff, he still insisted that I hadn't paid. In the end, I had to go back to my room to get my laptop and showed him the confirmation email before he would budge.

Overall, the incessant asking of my check out time and the problem during check out really soured my stay. Compared to the other Hyatts I've stayed this year, this Hyatt was easily the worst. Apart from the very good service from the lounge staff during the evening cocktail hours, there was no other things to shout about.

    Thanks for reading.

We have stayed in this Hyatt property way back in 2009, but we remember great service and good food // drinks. Yes, the hotel at the time was dated and it had shown, but we enjoyed it much, due to the great service encountered, fantastic location and the Regency Club. At the time, the Regency Club Lounge was located away from the original space, because the lounge was being renovated. We could also take a look into their new rooms, which by now in April 2011 are all there as we understand. At the time we enjoyed also the balcony with views over the sea, but the balconies are no more in this property, now they have larger and much more modern rooms instead.

Thanks cennas for your review and update!
