    HTTP Status 404 - /hyatt/index.jsp

    type Status report
    message /hyatt/index.jsp
description The requested resource (/hyatt/index.jsp) is not available.

This happens so frequently we should have a Master Thread to report outages.

btw I seems to be up and running right now.

I opened the website and it seemed up and running, but I just tried to make a reservation and after hitting search it tells me "Server unavailable".

Big surprise. The site spends more time down than up. Some "maintenance"they do..

How fortunate. I am getting a much less professional message:

    HTTP Status 420 - /hyatt/sloppy.jsp

    type Status report
    message /hyatt/sloppy.jsp
description The requested resource (/hyatt/sloppy.jsp) is stoned.

    Heh - wouldn't surprise me.

I manage web development, and while the programmers always get a kick out of error messages like this, the messages somehow seem less funny when we forget to take them out before going live.

    Dear Milepoint Members,

Hyatt.com was down for just over 5 hours on Tuesday, due to heavier than expected traffic that resulted from the Hyatt Gold Passport E-Summary distribution. We apologize for any inconvenience. We’ve upgraded our systems so this should not happen again in the future.

I got my E-Summary that day. What did I miss in it that caused everyone else to flood the website?

I would guess the processing of the E-sum was too taxing.

The website should not be impacted by processing a summary and emailing it to people. That would be a bizarre system architecture.

It sounds like it was not sending the statements that caused the problem but the traffic that resulted from that. For whatever reason sending them seemed to spawn an unusual amount of traffic. Often that happens if there are errors, but it could be something else entirely.
