NBC News: Humbug! Disney World tells Santa look-alike to tone it down

I know there was the story of a girl who looked like Tinkerbell a few months ago...now WDW addresses a Santa look-a-like...

If it were actually the Christmas season, I could understand their concern. They wouldn't want the chance of kids to see both him and their Disney Santa at exactly the same time and place.

"The encounter could create a time paradox, the result of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire [Universal Studios]!"

Told him he was named after a dwarf planet, enraging and confusing Pluto into believing he was just called one of Snow White's b!tches and not Mickey Mouse's #1 dawg! :p

With all the insanity happening around the world today, how can anyone stop someone from bringing a little bit of happiness to a child. They certainly don't own a copyright on Santa Claus.

Hmm, maybe I'm the only one, but I totally understand where Disney is coming from. They are so serious about maintaining the high quality of their entertainment, that they don't want to risk someone thinking Mr. Fake Santa is with Disney. Because once that happens, and Santa says or does ANYTHING inappropriate (or even not inappropriate but just not super-satisfying to a guest), Disney will get complaints and have to clean up the mess. (A friend of mine once showed up to a Disney park in a tux and tails that matched the Haunted Mansion costume exactly, and they asked him to change before he was allowed in the park, for very similar reasons.)

Employees at a Disney theme park are called "cast members" and they're reminded that when they go in the public areas of the park, they're "on stage" (all Disney terminology)... in this case, I think it's a case of, it's Disney's "show" and Mr. Fake Santa doesn't need to make himself a part of it.

So when I read that Disney asked the guy to stop interacting as Santa with other park patrons because "it was disruptive to our operations and confusing to our other guests, particularly children who asked to take photos with him," I totally get it. Disney parks are world-class destinations because of the incredibly high quality level of their show. If I were them, I wouldn't want a non-Disney person to be confusing the other guests (or impersonating a cast member), either.

Hmmmm! He was part of the show? I thought that some people have taken photos of him and liked what they saw, why not let them have fun?
