    HTC chief --- The iPhone suffers from the "Your Dad uses
    it" syndrome:D:eek::oops:

    Four months ago, Gartner released a report warning that Windows Phone 7 suffers in part from the "Your Dad uses it syndrome," the perception that it's something your father uses at work, not something you would use. And now, a top HTC executive says that the iPhone suffers from the same syndrome.
    Martin Fichter, acting president of HTC America, speaking at the Mobile Future Forward conference, said that when he brought his daughter to college at Reed in Portland, he surveyed her dorm mates about what phones they use. Mashable reports that Fichter then told the conference that none of them had an iPhone. When the students were asked to explain why that is, Fichter says:

    "They told me: 'My dad has an iPhone.' There's an interesting thing that’s going on in the market. The iPhone becomes a little less cool than it was. They were carrying HTCs. They were carrying Samsungs. They were even carrying some Chinese manufacturer's devices."
    ...

    "Macbook Airs are cool. iPhones are not that cool anymore. We here are using iPhones, but our kids don't find them that cool anymore."

    You know, to an extent it's true... Tech savvy people hate it when "regular" folks start using all the cool toys. :)

    I remember the first time this lady -- 60+ friend of my mother-in-law -- pulled out her iPhone 4 and started swiping away like it was the most natural thing in the world. At that point the iPhone stopped being cool for me. :)

    As always, when it comes out new, it is interesting, when many people have it, it is boring and we simply move on to the next toy!:D This reflects the need for style over purpose!:eek:

    IMHO either you have a hate them or love them attitude when it comes to Apple products regardless of your age.

    I've always hated the iphone and generally speaking Apple itself - my favorite smartphone ever is still the Nokia N95-8gb. When I occasionally stick a SIM card in the thing it still gets a lot of attention. It is of marginal utility as a chick magnet I grant you, but then again so am I, so it's all good.

    Were there ever phones that could serve as a chick magnet?

    I used to have a great Sanyo phone. I have also an old Nokia N95 that I bought six years ago that has literally been around the world 100 times and been used by four of us in the office- it is finally dying now but whoa- this phone still is up to date and is more durable than a tank!

    I guess, with using my phone roughly once a month in the US, I do not see the point in investing $$$$ in something I use very little...I can text, check email, and talk...oh and catch a lot of grief from my friends with their fancy smart phones. ;)

    IMHO the HTC product lineup with all of their different models that come in many different styles offers something for everyone while you are limited with the iPhone. Case in point, I like the slider keyboard on my TP2 phone which is not available on any iPhone model. HTC has made some great slider models such as my Touch Pro 2 and the Arrive which feature a full 5 row QWERTY keyboard. Every review on these 2 phones have always praised the ease of use when typing on the keyboards of these models.

    Could be Vertu which is handmade in England and a brand owned by Nokia the ultimative luxury chick magnet?

    iPhone also suffers from the "it's easy to use" and "it's a well thought-out device" syndromes.

    Can't wait to get my first iPhone next month.
