This thread is designed to give those who are looking to prevent their Delta Air Lines SkyMiles from expiring, with the list being updated with the latest information here in this milepost.

How to keep your Delta Air Lines SkyMiles from expiring:
    • Fly on a Delta Air Lines or Delta Connection flight.
    • Fly on a SkyTeam or Delta Air Lines partner airline.
    • Patronize a partner of Delta Air Lines, whether it be via a hotel, car rental, shopping or other partner.
    • SkyMiles Dining (part of the Rewards Network)
    • Use of a co-branded Delta SkyMiles American Express credit card
    • Miles redemption - minimal amounts for items such as magazine subscriptions will cost as little as 500 SkyMiles, but will extend miles another 18 months.

Will an e-rewards redemption extend the expiration?

Converting e-rewards into SkyMiles does extend it from what I recall.

The trick with extending miles is it needs to post into the base miles column on your account summary - anything that is +/-0 in that column will trigger an extension.

Another way — albeit unlikely — to keep your Delta Air Lines SkyMiles from expiring is to simply have the SkyMiles program remove the expiration policy of SkyMiles altogether.

Suuuuuure...that will happen — the day when Atlanta gets snow three times in one winter and when Randy Petersen launches an Internet web site that competes with FlyerTalk, that will happen...

    For now...

...remember, miles in the original Frequent Flier Program at Delta Air Lines did not expire.

There is always the possibility that under different management in the future, mileage expiration could always return...

They didn't expire but they did get rolled into Skymiles and all of the nifty awards from the old FF program went bye-bye, sayonara, aloha, adieu, adios, etc.

Interesting email about the miles not expiring. Of course, being able to use the miles on 25K awards would have been an even better treat.

The odds of all that happening must be astronomical. It's a good thing that you aren't a gambling man! [IMG]

The new answer is to be sure that you give instructions regarding your SkyMiles in your will.

Or be sure to leave someone the login/pass so that they can book tickets for themselves.
