Just figured this out...in 2012, using promo codes, I bought a reduced rate 1-year AAA membership. They just sent me my new card for 2013/2014. Since all I want this AAA membership for is reduced hotel rates and a few other discounted services like FedEx, I just called up and cancelled my membership. But I still have the new card which I can use to get the discounted rates for this year. At stores/hotels, they don't ever confirm your membership, they just want to see the card. I was on auto-bill so I'm not sure if I would have received the card had they sent me an invoice.
