Pardon my naivety, but I haven’t booked a USAirways award before.

Since USAirways requires roundtrip awards [well at least one is unable to book a one-way award for half the miles of a roundtrip], when the 330 day mark hits, one can book the departure, but is there a way to book the return when the date hasn’t opened up yet? Besides doing a re-ticket for a fee?

    Thanks!

You COULD book the departure and then pay a change fee to add a new return.

Or you could wait for the booking window to open.

This does vary by destination/airline partner but it's not necessarily the case you need to book right when the window opens or even that availability is best when the booking window opens.

Obviously depends on the route and * Alliance Carrier.

I'll do my homework to see if the change fee is worth it, or chance it.

Thanks Gleff for the response, and confirming my assumptions.
