Hi guys, first time poster. EXP w/ 4 SWUs now and have to book a trip to ICN in December. But none of the flights =/-3d around my desired dates have any SWU availability, but the business/first class cabins are REALLY empty. What are the chances that AA will release more SWU availability?

    Thanks!

AA has gotten a bit crazy lately with holding them until the last minute. You will probably clear at best a day before flying. On occasion they will clear sooner, but lately that is rare.

Data point: Just flew DFW-PVG-DFW and a few C seats opened up each way about 2 days before departure. DFW-PVG then went to C0 around 24 hours out and stayed there even though we went out half empty in J. Return was C2 at the gate and we went out with open seats.

They often clear at the last minute these days, as others have noted. If you're EXP or above and there is space it might even clear at the gate. I always check Expert Flyer. If there is open space in the cabin I want I consistently get it even at the gate. CK lately seems to be ranked above EXP, though, so it does depend on how many EXP's and CK's are on your flight. My flight out of LHR two weeks ago had 11 CK's! we all were upgraded plus a few EXP's IIRC. It was three classes so some Y to C others C to F
