My fiance and I are looking to fly to Thailand from New Orleans. I have 3/4s of the miles (~350k) I need to get there on United and have almost a million AMEX rewards points from which to draw. I understand that AMEX and United are not partners. i would prefer to use my United Miles up as I am switching over primary airline affiliation to Delta given my location in New Orleans. Can someone tell me the best way forward to make this trip work?

UPDATE: Should've mentioned that would ideally travel business or first and in October which is why I think I'd need the extra 100k miles or so.

    united.com

Plug in MSY - BKK - MSY and look for dates that will work. (Keep in mind you could do a stopover somewhere so ... HKG/ICN/HND/NRT are all options ... or you could even goto Samui/Phuket/etc)
350k UA miles is more than enough ... 120k RT in J 140k RT in F or 65k in Y.

I feel bad that I am so new at this so am not following all that well. Are you saying that if we left on the 18th and came back the 29th that we'd be able to do it in business class for under 350k? THANK YOU so much for your help.

Yeah but one of the sections (IAD - BRU) is in economy.

    Code:
    UA 740 MSY IAD 10/18/2013 5:30 PM 10/18/2013 8:59 PM 319
    SN 516 IAD BRU 10/18/2013 10:35 PM 10/19/2013 12:10 PM 332
    TG 935 BRU BKK 10/19/2013 1:30 PM 10/20/2013 5:35 AM 773

    CA 980 BKK PEK 10/29/2013 1:05 AM 10/29/2013 6:30 AM 772
    CA 995 PEK IAH 10/29/2013 3:00 PM 10/29/2013 3:40 PM 773
    UA 1488 IAH MSY 10/29/2013 4:45 PM 10/29/2013 5:53 PM 738
Like i said; play around w/UA.com and find space that do not have a ! next to it. That means that some of your flights will be in Economy ... but if you're paying for Bus+ ... why sit in Economy.

You could use an awards booking service as well. I know there are a few out there, but personally have no experience with them.
