Just looking for some guidance to temper my expectations.

    Important parameters are:

    I'm diamond.

Booked regular room with suite upgrade.

Hotel is a Park Hyatt on a Saturday.

I'llk call to request that early check in be requested.

I am sure if the suite will be available they will give it to you, but in case its occupied and the person got a late check-out it may take a while. They probably will offer you a room until the suite is ready if they have availabilty.

do you actually need the room?

I've frequently been known to show up at 7am for checkin at resorts and if the room isn't ready, oh well, I'll just go to the beach/pool.

Half of my hotel stays are early check-ins since I'm a fan of red-eyes. IME they'll give you a room if they have it. But if they don't have it, hey, what can they do, kick out the guy who's still sleeping? Give you a dirty room? But I'm sure Diamond status will help you get the first room that does open up, and like roadwarrior said, they may give you a temporary room while you wait for the suite.
