The Windsor Court is wonderful. At least before the renovation, it had lots of suites and gave good FHR upgrades and other benefits.

Loews I would avoid. I had a horrible stay when then dowwngraded my room from what was confirmed in writing and then tried to lie and tell me I had been upgraded. They were nasty about it. Their frequent sleeper program requires full rack rates for any benefits.

IIRC there are two Ws in New Orleans. The other one is called something like W New Orleans and is near the Windsor Court,
    Loews, and Harrah's casino.

JWMarriott is a big modern convention hotel that has a lot of large groups. I would not call it luxury.

RC is located on Canal, above the French Quarter some distance from the river and action. Their club level is a true hotel the hotel called IIRC Maison Orleans.

Roosevelt IIRC is the former Fairmont. The immediate neighborhood is improving, roughly between JRMarriott and RC but on the other side of Canal and about one block in, with the entrance on a small street. It's a historic building and before Katrina was old and ratty but interesting, but rooms and baths were generally small.

W Poydras is across the street from both Harrah's and Lowes and a few blocks from the French Quarter. The property is showing its age and is probably due for a rennovation. But its a W, just keep the lighting low.
Country Inn & Suites French Quarter is actually a very nice property.
Sheraton New Orleans is a convention hotel and does not have the feel of the French Quarter. That being said its in an excellent location on Canal St. directly across from the French Quarter and a few blocks from Harrahs.

Dont forget to hit Pat O'Briens for a couple of Hurricanes  !
