Hotels Change In-Room Phone Systems to Allow Direct 911 Dialing
It has been problematic not just hotels, but places where there are PBXs, and where typically 9 was used to get an outside line. Some did in fact not use 9 but opted for 5 [We did eons ago] Then there was the question of implementing DOD (Direct Outward Dialing), even though it was/is a software feature in many PBXs, most did not bother.
usage (revenue enhancers) of phone system in hotels/motels has declined to few pennies. Post T-mobile flat 20c international roaming, I have not used any phone other than my cellphone. Domestically, I do not ever recall even making a local call from in-room hotel phone.
I am glad that finally, the hotel industry as a whole, will take notice of the urgency. OTH, somethings will still not change.
Good news. I remember reading that story. We condition our children to dial 911 in an emergency [at home], so it's nice to hear it could work outside the home as well.
