    I suspect it will mean higher rates for customers if the analysts and investors are excited.

    Wouldnt there be issues with competion councils or whatever in various jurisdictions?

    Highly unlikely that an anti-trust in the USA or a Kartel decision in Europe would take place in this scenario as it would be easy to prove their are a high number of competitors in the marketplace.

    it always struck me that Intercontinental would be a better match for Starwood on a brand-and-location basis. Intercontinental is particularly strong in the areas where Starwood is weak (Holiday Inn, Express, Staybridge, Candlewood v. Four Points), and Starwood is strong in the areas where Intercontinental is weak (Sheraton, Westin, W v. Crowne Plaza).
