I'm going to guess a Westin will be attached to a specific terminal at ATL .... similar to the one at DTW.

Yeah, in fact there are numerous hotels within a mile or two, but none connected to the terminal. There would be some nice advantages to having a property connected similar to MCO, DFW and others where transfer to ground transportation is not required.

I'm not sure I'm buying the need for an on-terminal property in this case. ATL Marriott is one stop away on SkyTrain, which runs every 3-5 minutes. There is no need to go to the ground transportation center and wait for a shuttle bus. It's easier to get to than many connected hotels at other airports!

Although I'm a Marriott guy, I did spend a night there a couple of years ago. I was very impressed.

Unless you have to go to/from North Terminal. ;)

Yes, and it is the same SkyTrain that goes to the Rental Car facility. Sort of like SFO - but then no hotels at the end of the terminal link train.

DFW has both Grand Hyatt - accessible to terminal D and SkyTrain. The DFW Hyatt Regency is at the terminal but not accessible except by bus (although some say they walk to it through the parking garage).

Very easy to walk through parking garage to DFW Regency.

Marriott connected via sky train has been appreciated during my unexpected overnight stays in ATL due to delays and missed connections.

I'm local to ATL and it's a pain in the ... waiting for Hotel vans sometimes as the frequency can be a hit or miss for a specific property.

Indeed, IMHO SkyTrain to Marriott is easier than walking through parking lot to HR DFW or Hilton BOS. IMHO. :)

Agreed. But the problem at DFW - even if you walk through the garage - you have to get to DFW Terminal C first.
Say you arrive at Terminal B and you have to retrieve checked luggage, then you are outside secuity and have to then take the shuttle bus between terminals in order to get to Term C so you can then walk through the garage. So you might as well call the hotel and have the hotel shuttle pick you up at B.

BTW- there is more than just a Marriott at ATL (end of SkyTrain) there is a Springhill Suites I believe as well, plus room to build more hotels.

Yes, I have only stayed at the SpringHill Suites location. Much cheaper than the Marriott. When I stay, its usually for 6 hours or less. lol

The addition of the SkyTrain a couple of yrs back obviously opened up options. I have to believe there's a developer/hotel management group (however the partnership would be constructed with the airport authority), that's absolutely salivating at the prospect of having a terminal-connected property.

Are they planning for the hotel to be inside or outside secuity? ATL - most everything is inside securty.

DFW - Grand Hyatt is above Term D but outside security.
Take ICN (south Korean) the terminal hotel is inside security - which works great for long layovers (6am arrivals with 5 pm connections).

Nothings been stated for certain, but I would think outside security. I'm not aware of a hotel in the US that's located inside security??

Hotels inside security don't make much sense in the US. They're useful for international transfers - that is, for those not willing or unable to go through immigration. Other transferring passengers won't benefit from having a hotel inside security, where it will undoubtedly be more expensive due to space being at a much higher premium.

Yeah, its definitely not ideal space wise like at DEN with the new Westin. However, going vertical with a hotel does give them the option. I presume the shuttle lanes behind the MARTA station would essentially be tunneled.

Reports are coming out that the new Airport City would include a 400-500 room hotel connected to the domestic terminal.
