This story has just started making the rounds on Twitter, and it makes for a harrowing read if you fit the “profile”:

Read the rest of it here.

I don't know what's more shocking, that this should happen to people, based purely on some ignoramus's speculation, or that there were apparently 50 other similar cases that day.

Interesting: it seems this is the same story as the three-in-a-bathroom one that's been making the rounds, but from a victim's perspective.

Interesting, did the HuffPo people confuse two stories? The Reuters report also mentions bathrooms.

Whatever the case, the idea that people should go through such an experience based on random reports is worrying. I'd imagine it's even worse for non-US citizens.

I think I'll price myself out of ignoramus company on flights to the US by always flying SQ. In other parts of the world, being different isn't a crime…

Doesn't this sound suspicious to anyone except me?

After all, there must have been thousands of Arabs (or people of Arab descent) flying in the US on 9/11 this year.

In addition, there were unquestionably hundreds of thousands of people who might look like the stereotypical Arab (lightly tanned skin), including many who have last names which show they have Italian backgrounds.

Why was this one woman (and, she was told, 50 other people in the country) chosen? Just because two men sitting next to her used the lavs? Come on!

I realize that this appeared on the internet, and thus is unquestionably true, but I indeed have to wonder if there is any basis in fact for it at all.

You are simply attempting a character assassination through ad hom of it being an internet source, yet provide not even a bit of alternative explanation or a fact. Which part do you not believe? Why? Blind distrust and paranoia is hardly a valid argument.

You want me to provide an alternative explanation for a situation which may or may not have actually happened?

It's probably the same story as this one.... http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/09/12/us-airlines-security-scares-idUSTRE78B4AQ20110912

The TSA really needs to be reined in. I put a lot of value on safety and security, but since 9/11, we've gone way too far.

I do not approve of the type of mindset and behaviour that resulted in this circumstance and it is my earnest desire that such incidents do not recur.

I think it's really unfortunate what happened to this lady, and as a fellow American citizen I'd be mad if I got detained like that too, but what a hypocrite! She claims the only reason she got detained was because of her appearance and Arab/Jewish decent, then turns around to make derogatory comments about white people- rednecks, beer coozies, etc. I can't help but be a little put off and offended by that. She'd get a lot more sympathy from me if she didn't come across as such a bigot herself.

I wonder if the person who made the claim of observing the alleged behavior was detained or otherwise inconvenienced?

It would seem absolutely logical to hold both the alleged suspect and the alleged witness until the claims have been sorted out. Which of course means that that probably didn't happen.
