That place was awful - low ceilings, smoky, and not such a great crowd. Too bad they're staying open during reorganization. Hard to see how they could compete with such nice places around.

This was the San Remo once, right?

The thing is, Hooter's isn't special when you compare it to everything else in Vegas, and the Hooter's hotel is just darn inconvenient to get to.

Maybe the Hooters name would have done better in a downtown location rather than near the Strip?

Correction: the esteemed Hôtel San Rémo, nee Howard Johnson's.

Agreed that Vegas has a glut of themed hotels that are glorified Motel 6s, all of which you can book for $50/night if you're clever. I'll put odds on the future demolition of Excalibur/Imperial Palace, etc.

Only at the top end is there growth, and even there you can misfire. See, e.g., the empty Vdara and Trump.

Their business model was based on the concept that a pair would beat a straight.

Actually, I think the Imperial Palace has survived it's initial glory, the inevitable ensuing period where it seems like a dump, and is now reborn as a hipster hangout. All through no intervention on its own part - just dumb luck. I think they'll hang on.

The Imperial Palace will probably be around a lot longer than Planet Hollywood. They have survived for years on large group bookings to fill the rooms. Mainly Chinese Tourists but also they have some of the best group rates for 20 or so rooms compared to the larger Hotels on the strip.

The Hooters was once the San Remo, yes. That place is a dump and always has been, so this is no surprise.

The Imperial Palace is also a dump, which caters to degenerates and low budget travel (not necessarily together). It has been 'reborn' since it offers $20 rooms. It is cheaper to live in the IP than to rent a low budget apartment in some cases....which is why some people have done it.

Okay, two thoughts come to mind:

    1. Isn't the Hooters Casino several blocks from the strip? (which is funny in of itself).

    2. Surprised nobody has made a reference to going ***s up.

They used to have a really cool car collection there. The rest of the place was beyond creepy.

Bill's is a great place! Easiest parking on the strip and the rooms are pretty nice too. I haven't been back since I stayed when it was the Barbary Coast but not because it was a bad experience.
