So DL is running a DTW->HKG Double Miles promo. I booked 11/24-28 CMH-HKG with my DLAmex and just figured out that between the 2/1 purchase, the double miles, and my current Silver Water Buffalo-ness I'm somehow getting 38650 miles (16700MQM) for barely over $1K. Is that a good thing? And what the heck am I going to do for that 48 hours in Hong Kong?!?!

If my math is right, that's 2.5 cpm (cents per mile), and 5 cents per MQM.
I consider that a very good deal.

Sounds like 2X miles for credit card spend. Congrats to the OP.

You are 100% correct Scottrick. I'm still figuring out the lingo on here... as my status says, I feel a lot like the squadron leader in a Monty Python sketch about half the time. "I'm sorry, I seem to be having trouble understanding your banter"

It's alright. I have a rotation student I got roped into supervising this quarter. He keeps referring to the 8% stock solutions as 8X stock solutions, which will really bite him in the ass if he forgets when he tries to dilute them down to 4% (in other words, 8% means 2X for this particular case).

48 hours in Hong Kong is a great thing.... you can have some great Chinese food and shop for a Swiss timepiece.... and if you want a PRC stamp in your passport, you can take a day trip over the border to Shenzhen... what is there not to love about Hong Kong...?

I'm not even in Y! I think I'm in T or K or something... for all I know I'm flying in the cargo bin with the luggage. :)

In this case "Y" means coach, and covers all the coach fare buckets- LUTHKQYBM etc.
YBM earn 1.5 mqms and are upgradable int'l, but they're still coach fares.

If you can (if you have status on DL, and if not I think it's only a minimal upcharge) go for the economy comfort seats; the extra 3" or so of leg room makes a very significant difference.

If you have difficulty finding something educational/inspiring/unusual/unique to do in HKG for 48 hrs (if only just by visting a web-travelsite) I am not sure there is anything anyone here could possibly suggest:)
