bummer, I would hop all over the free nights but have all my worthwhile hotel stays booked already through June of 2012.

    thanks for posting!

This could work for some free nights for us if we can find some hotels in the area which are cheap enough. Will have to ponder this one for a while I think.

Easy math for me. My stays are typically one night, so I'm getting less than 2000 points/night. Doubling that gets me < 8000 points/4 stays... so a night in a Cat 1 hotel. :) Four stays for a FRN? Easy decision.

  8. Has to be the free stays, have at least twenty nights booked by years end.

Signed up for double points. Most of my stays are booked at 50% off, so double points for those stays is a good deal :)

    Thanks registered for double points.

Need to build up my points again, just used 150000 for 3 nights @ Hilton Hawaiian Village for January :)

The 6 months limit on the free night certs is the stumbling block for me.:(

I think the biggest stumbling block for me is going to be price for the 4 stays. Cheapest rates I am seeing for the next few weeks is $97 including taxes. We are going to Hong Kong early 2012 so think it might go close to a break even just to pay for the room outright.

I have a few stays coming up and that free night will come in handy next year.

This is also what I'm struggling with. Although having the certificates would prompt me to just use the free nights instead of saving my points which I tend to do if the hotel is cheap enough.

This blows. I was making the decision to save money and move all my stays to Jan-Mar.

Now I have to decide how many Hilton nights i need now just for free nights.

    I missed that.
This makes it much easier for me.

I am not going to partake. As much as it hurts.

You can say that again, with just the Conrad Hong Kong to choose from, it's a wallet-emptier every time!

I've got three stays in December, but finding a fourth in the quarter might be tough, especially with the prices here in Asia. I'd jump on US$97pn!

Problem is you need to do 4 stays to get the free night, those 4 stays are going to cost be $388, I can buy the Conrad HK outright for a tad over $400 for the time we are going to be there. Does it make sense to go to the effort of having to run around to hotels that are a 15 mile drive to go thru the process? That is for me at least the question I have to ask. If was seeing rates for $70 it would be a no-brainer, or if some of the travel was work related or even if it was a 3-1 freebie it would make sense, but at this time I am not certain unless you have those conditions it can really work that well.

We decided to go with Double Points, as we have a few stays coming up, this makes sense to us!:) More points are always welcome into our account for future stays within the Hilton family of brands, looking to some great Hilton's, Conrad's and Waldorf=Astoria properties to use them wisely!:)

Yep, not sure I'd do 4 needless stays, but I'm now looking for one extra, and can't see how I'll do it for cheap.

    Shall I do this? :

I have a 5 night trip to Delhi in December. I've booked the first night already; somewhere nearer the airport as I get in late (Hilton Janakpuri). I was planning to spend two nights at the new Doubletree Mayur Vihar then two nights at the brand new Hilton Mayur Vihar; these two hotels are next door to each other apparently. To get my fourth stay, I could instead stay one night at the Doubletree, then two at the Hilton, then the last one at the Doubletree. Since they're beside eachother the increased hassle is only marginal (I hope).

Or am I being really silly about this?

Umm think you are on the wrong website if you think anyone would think you are silly for maximising your rewards. I would do the hopping and accept the hassle because you are so close to getting the reward you can get it without spending any extra.

And it would have been for me except we've got a week in Paris in March for personal travel that we haven't booked accommodations for yet (too many choices!). I have no idea how many stays I'll get in Q4, but easily 4, probably easy 8, and 12/16 isn't out of the question.
