Hilton Worldwide entering Lebanon, bringing Waldorf to Dubai:)

The 195-room Habtoor Grand and 183-room Metropolitan Palace in Beirut are to be converted to Hilton hotels early 2012.

The signed partnership with Al Habtoor Group today will also see the first Waldorf property opening in Dubai, the 324-room Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah, at the end of 2013.

Christopher Nassetta, President and CEO of Hilton Worldwide, said it has been looking forward to entering Lebanon, and was pleased to do so with the "calibre" of the existing two properties.

OPINION: Fantastic news, new markets, new choices, Lebanon is growing and Hilton is set to grow in this country plus the Waldorf=Astoria brand grows again, Dubai, excellent choice, this market is not yet saturated at all, it seem. Overall, fantastic news for Hilton fans, like us around the world.

Interesting indeed! What happens to that wonderful hotel that was built on the waterfront here in Beirut (in downtown) and has the Hilton sign on it (albeit covered)?

I’ve been meaning to get to Beirut since the mid-70’s. This would make for an additional reason to go.
