We had a four-day award stay at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square during the summer. The short version is we had a great stay, in large part due to the hotel's staff. Before our stay, I emailed to let them know I was celebrating my birthday. They responded the next day and saying they had upgraded me to a junior suite. This was a large room with balcony with a view of the water. When we checked in, there was a fruit and cheese plate with a bottle of wine and a hand-written note wishing me a happy birthday. A few days later when we had dinner in the restaurant, they gave us free dessert and a round of drinks when my girlfriend snuck off and asked them to put a candle in something for me. Location-wise, the hotel is well positioned. It's a couple blocks away from a subway stop and also the terminal point of the street car lines. Heading out the front door, going to the right is a much nicer area than to the left. Nowhere did I feel unsafe, but they were a fair number of panhandlers outside. There is no executive lounge at this property. However, I was a gold member at the time, and we received coupons which each day got us a free drink, pastry, and piece of fruit at the lobby Starbucks.
