    Pattaya is not for everyone.

Kalboz is a resident Thailand expert (and a great guy)- one suggestion I would have though is to avoid Pattaya as it is very very crowded (to be fair some people do like it).

The best areas of Phuket with chain hotels are near the JW and the REN (both on the same beach) which is beautiful.

The area around Trisara and Aman are also stunning- however prices can be quite a stretch there for most budgets.

It is a good price for the Hilton if you want to stay there however- and the Hilton is a very good (and recent build) hotel.

    Very true
Thank you for the kind words, however, I am hardly the expert here :) ... I am just grounded without much traveling due to our two little ones (I say this without any regrets) and hence the time to post more often about the subject.
I personally like the south end area of Patong beach, the resorts/hotels around and including the Holiday Inn ... there, you can relax, travel exploring the island, and the facilities (restaurants, shopping, nightlife, etc.) are abundant. Generally, at other areas, you are isolated and at the mercy of the hotel where you are staying as dining and shopping options are limited.
