I’ve stayed here 4-5 times over the last 18 months for around 15 total nights. Location: 7-10 minute walk from Penn Station/Madison Sq Garden Status Benefits: There is no executive lounge. There are no suites. The best room you can get upgraded to is a high floor. Certificates for free breakfast in the restaurant. There’s a special Diamond menu which lets you choose either 1) the buffet which has eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, muffins, bagels, toast, yogurt, and sometimes lox on it, 2) a couple breakfast sandwiches and a few other breakfast entrees, or 3) a choice of two sides, cereal, juice, and coffee (this is essentially the same as the buffet). Hotel dining: The hotel restaurant is a called “Rare.” It is very beef-focused, with mainly burgers and steaks. If you don’t love meat, you probably won’t eat here more than once. There’s a rooftop bar which many people seem to enjoy during the summer. It gets very loud. Other: The elevators can be a pain. You need to swipe your keycard before you can select a floor, and the readers sometimes don’t work. This happened on part of two different stays. On another 4-night stay, the elevator call button didn’t work on any floor, so you had to call the front desk and they’d send an elevator to your floor. Finally, during the nights, only 2 of the 3 elevators are available for guests—with the third just going to the roof bar. This means you may wait for awhile.
