    Just announced:

Thank you for the link! Now, at least, there is a clear objective with a "prize" for playing the hotel loyalty "game". I wonder whether HHonors would now also provide a "lifetime number of paid nights" counter, along with the number of years they think one has been a member, or just have an official "member since: " item in the profiles. It would be nice...

I was hoping for a points way to qualify. This would need 100 (paid) nights a year for 10 years. Wow. I had over 200k in base points last year and not even enough nights for Diamond. Even if I make Diamond every year it could take me 25 years to get 1000 nights lol.

Are cash and points considered paid nights?

Cash and points stays always count as award stays in the HHonors program. They count toward elite qualification, as do most "pure" award stays, but any stays in which any points are used are classified as award stays and not revenue or paid stays...

I called Hilton to find out what my nights and years of diamond were. The gentleman told me the answer but had no idea that they now have a lifetime diamond status.

Just called the Diamond Desk - not only did they know about the Lifetime Diamond but confirmed my current paid nights count ... I am close - something to strive for - having already made the 10 years Diamond.

    @HiltonHotelFans thanks for posting!

I did not get an email even though they did say the issue of no emails is now resolved - so will see!

I wish there were a way to see how many lifetime nights I have had at HH hotels.

Call Hilton. They should have that information. They did for me.

Anyone knows if paid Day Use rates count toward elite qualification as well as the 1,000 nights?
I might be more inclined to book a day use at an airport hotel instead of hitting the airport lounge if I have long transit if they help in re-qualifications as well as "life-time" status..

HHonors is currently researching things for me. They gave me a case number. I feel important.

Am told it does but will never truly know until it happens right?
Might have a day rate stay in July so I guess I will have to check the nights before and after that stay.

Question: Anyone in the MP community is a Lifetime Diamond?

Would be nice if you could show the card and the package.
Hoping to know what I will get if I direct the next 30-50 years of my hotel stays to Hilton :D

Well, they have added new ways to earn this status..
    It is now
    (1) 10 years of Diamond + 1,000 nights (any qualified nights, including award nights)
    (2) 10 years of Diamond + 2,000,000 Base points

I am still far far far far far far away but adding award nights makes counting / accumulating 1,000 nights way easier.

Any idea if they count 10 years as 10 'full' years or just 10 years with the card? I think I will just miss diamond this year for 2017, but should get it back in 2017. So does that count as being Diamond in 2017 (1 year), or will it count as say 4-6 months as Diamond?

I will hit 2 million base points before I hit 1000 nights even with the new definition of a night.

I believe the 3 months will not count. e.g.

    Nov 2015 - Qualify "Diamond"
    Dec 2015 - "Diamond"
Jan till Dec 2016 - (actual Diamond membership year): never requalify as Diamond
    Jan 2017 - "Diamond"
    Feb 2017 - "Diamond"
    Mar 2017 - "Diamond"

The above likely count as 1 yr Diamond and not 1 yr 5 mths of Diamond

Another way to think of it would be the number of years in which you've completed the tasks necessary to qualify, not the number of different calendar years that you had a card in your hand. If you miss qualifying in 2016 but do qualify in 2017 then 2016 won't count but 2017 will.

At least that's what I expect they'll do. It is fair to all parties involved.

I like this change. I am early retired now but now just single digit number of nights away from lifetime diamond. :). May see some mattress runs in my future after spending the remainder of my points next year of a nice stay (which will also count now!)

Makes perfect sense. But pushes me back a year lol

I thought I had read somewhere someone quoting the diamond desk saying they were a few months short which lead me to believe it might not have been in blocks of years.
