I got Hilton Gold status after getting my Surpass card in Jan. 2012. It is good until March 2014.
My question is if I downgrade my Surpass card to a no fee AMEX HH card to avoid paying $75 yearly fee will I lose my Gold status before the expiration date?

nope, you will keep it until March 2014. the amex card gives you one year free gold and that is transfered over to hilton, the citi reserve give gold as long as you hold the card. before you cancel think about if you will be staying at hilton properties, you now get 12 pts per dollar at hiltons with the surpass card, with the fee free card its only 6. If you place a value of 1/2 cent per hilton points then it is worht it to pay the 75 annual fee if you spend more than $2500 in a year at hiltons

If you can swing it, keep the NFAMEX for the awards, and the reserve for the status ;)
