Hilton's hotel for millennials scrapped from Downtown Indianapolis project

Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc.'s new millennial-focused boutique hotel brand won't be coming to Indianapolis — at least, not yet.

A developer has backed out of a deal with Hilton that would have brought a 180-room Canopy hotel to Downtown. It was scheduled to open this year as part of the redevelopment of the Illinois Building at Illinois and Market streets.

Biloxi's newest hotel brand is DoubleTree by Hilton

BILOXI -- Five months of training and preparation went into the transformation, and Thursday the former Sheraton Four Points in Biloxi is set to become DoubleTree by Hilton Biloxi.

"It's an incredible brand," said Kenny Glavan, manager of the Biloxi hotel on U.S. 90 at the base of Interstate 110. Along with the beach location -- adjacent to MGM Park and close to casinos and the Biloxi Lighthouse -- the upgraded amenities and service will appeal to corporate travelers and vacationers, he said.

Manilans learning to enjoy the taste of luxury

A large, white building being constructed near Manila Bay is the Conrad Manila, slated to open this year. The first Conrad-brand hotel in the country, under Hilton Worldwide Holdings of the U.S., has about 350 rooms in the eight-story building that overlooks the bay. Guests can enjoy sunset over Manila Bay from rooms with a view of the sea.

The SM group, the country's leading retailer, is the developer of the hotel, which also accommodates a high-end shopping area. The company aims to offer world-class facilities, said Harley Sy, president of SM Investments.

Meet the People Who Pretended to Meet Banksy at the Waldorf Astoria

Maddie Moran is standing in the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria carrying a purse full of cooked spaghetti, offering fistfuls of noodles to strangers. Almost no one is taking her up on the pasta, yet she doesn't seem to mind. It might not be helping that her face is scrawled with black paint that reads "Banky was here." But she deflects the incredulous stares with a disarming smile.

Moran was one of a few onlookers who, on January 16, turned out for an event circulated widely on Facebook that promised to reveal the true identity of Banksy, the mysterious graffiti artist. She said she brought the cooked pasta because the Waldorf “confirmed their open spaghetti policy,” and the event "wasn't [catered] by anybody.” Alrighty, then.

GM interview: Mark Allaf from Hilton Garden Inn

With Dubai’s Tourism Vision to attract 20 million visitors per year by 2020 – doubling the number welcomed in 2012, and with an increasing numbers of mid-segment hotels entering the market, the tourism landscape in the emirate is undergoing a sharp transformation. “Dubai is not shifting business from the existing upscale hotels, but really creating opportunities for new travellers to take advantage of more affordable rates,” says Hilton Garden Inn cluster general manager Mark Allaf.

Hilton Says New Tru Hotels May Become Company's Biggest Brand

Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. is entering the fast-growing midscale hotel category with a new chain called Tru that’s aimed at attracting younger, tech-savvy travelers with large lobbies, digital check-in and rooms for less than $100 a night.

The company said it has signed 102 franchise agreements with property owners and has another 30 pending in cities including Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Denver and Portland, Oregon, with the first Tru by Hilton hotels scheduled to open by the end of the year. Most will be outside such pricey markets as New York and San Francisco, with locations in small college towns, near major highways and at resort getaways, said Phil Cordell, global head of focused-service brands for Hilton. The company plans to eventually expand Tru outside the U.S.

Tru is the 13th brand for the world’s biggest lodging company, and may grow into Hilton’s largest by number of rooms, Chief Executive Officer Christopher Nassetta said in an interview. The Hampton brand is currently the company’s largest, with more than 200,000 rooms in 2,100 properties. Hampton is considered “upper midscale,” with rooms costing 20 percent to 30 percent more than at Tru hotels, which plan to charge about $80 to $90 a night, Nassetta said. Midscale hotels typically don’t have restaurants or meeting space.
