Hi MP'ers, we had the opportunity recently // August 2011 // on two occasions to stay at the Hilton Hotel in Belfast, Northern Ireland, here are some of our impressions and findings about this Hilton Hotel, enjoy: Location: Near the River Lagan in the newer part of town, beside the landmark Waterfront Hall // which hosts famous entertainers and shows // plus only 5 minute walk or less from the Belfast Central Train Station, just leave the station, cross the road and walk the small bridge between the parking garage and the new office building and voila the Hilton Hotel is within sight. Coming from Dublin, Ireland the hotel is ideal located for the train journey up to Belfast [ from Dublin's Connolly train station ] which takes around 2h 5m each way. Equally around 2h with the Bus from Dublin // Bus Eireann drives hourly to Belfast from Dublin, the bus station // Victoria // is around 15 to 20 min. walking distance of the other side of town. Welcome: Very friendly and efficient, room was not ready, but we were early, so no problem here, instant recognition as HH Gold Members, [ Welcome letter stated // recognized us as HH Silver Members on each of the two stays // it was on both times rectified within seconds @ Front Desk ] received on both stays in August 2011 an upgrade to a Executive Deluxe Room with King size beds, complimentary internet access codes and free breakfast in the restaurant called Sonoma. Our Room: Spacious and very modern Hilton style, officially a 5 star graded hotel, and it shows, superb spaces, great colors schemes of earthy browns and neutrals, fantastic views over the city or the river Lagan, everything was there from a large LCD TV, fully stocked Mini-Bar, large working desk, plush bedding, large marbled bath, excellent seating for relaxation, some magazines and great light system. A great modern Hilton. Club Lounge: On the 11th floor, one floor shy of the top floor, a great space, excellent views, great and friendly staff, many people were always here on both stays. And yes, the lounge staff was always friendly and efficient too, offers incl. non-alcoholic drinks all day, snacks and so on, magazines, newspapers, happy hour incl. snacks, canapes, wine, cocktails, sherry, enjoyed the Harveys very much here on one occasion, but on the other it was not available! During the weekend breakfast is served in the restaurant downstairs near the lobby called Sonoma. The food offerings in the evening could be improved as most things were gone when arriving later in the evening, but still within the happy hour. Sonoma Restaurant Breakfast: // on both occasions //: Choice of cheese, cold cuts, cereals, breads, fruit salads, yoghurts, croissants, sausages, the full English offerings, egg station, pancake offerings from the egg station // same chef // coffee and OJ served by the table and more juices on offer on the buffet. Overall a great breakfast experience, well visited, many people on both stays. Would only wish they could more offer incl. French Toast and some more bread choice and a dedicated pancake station with chef. Felt it was an after-thought for now. Beside the Sonoma Restaurant // which offers lunch // dinner // there was also the Cables Bar which serves bar food and drinks plus Costa branded coffee. BTW.....We received also the offer to have dinner @ Sonoma and earn an extra 500 HH points for doing so. Just let you know that this offer exists. It came with the Gold Member recognition letter from the Front Desk Manager. Overall: From Room service, Table Service, Front Desk, a very efficient, friendly hotel. Our room was upgraded and we enjoyed every minute of it. The recognition as a Gold Member was instant at check-in both times. The Executive Lounge was always lively and well visited, excellent drink offerings, but the food offerings could be improved. The service there was always very warm and welcoming. Would we recommend this Hilton Hotel? Yes we would! Would we want to stay here again? Yes we would book it again in the future, when in Belfast! Other things to know: Restaurants are only a few minutes from the hotel in nearly each direction, plus historic Belfast within 10 minutes walking distance incl. the City Hall, the Europa Hotel and some famous pubs to one or two cold ones! The Victoria Square shopping center is only 10 minutes walking distance away and holds even more shops and restaurants. Well worth a visit, Belfast has two airports, Belfast City and Belfast International. The train from Dublin [ Conolly Station ] was only 2h 5m each way and is scenic most of the time incl. some marinas and along the water. Hope you like our review?
