Hidden cost of cheap Android phones: Telcos spend billions on repairs
Don't repair policys cost the consumer money every month for the protection plan? I've never paid for one so I'm not familiar with it, but one would think that if the repairs cost so much, the carrier is making it up somehow by charging for an insurance policy or using subsidized Android phones to drive consumers to a more expensive wireless plan.
As Scottrick pointed out, the study gleefully avoids the other side of the coin: amount of money made from the users of low-end phones moving up to higher end data plans to use them. It's not like providers are not aware of the quality difference between the handsets. It's also a bit unfair to even try to equate Blackberry and Apple control over hardware to that of Android which isn't even a company.
